Wel, to put things bluntly, our party has been in possesion of a nice mine in the underdark some time, (with a nice teleport pad going there and back to a place on the surface where we can get supplies and workers).

Now the paladin in the party, which i play, has the nice idea to actually make something more out of the place. Not just a mine, but a small community, perhaps even a pally academy :D

To do so he's going to take the leadership feat at lvl 18 (at which point he's far in the 25+ leadership, so there's enough potential workers).. But! What should i build?!
A big underground fortress? An academy to train future adventurers and paladins? A community for those working in the mines and those with enough guts to dare live in the underdark?
Or should i just get those nifty dwarves to cut out a huge cave, fill it with permanent daylight items, and have a druid make us a wonderfull garden with all kinds of utopian houses and buildings carved in the sides of that cave?

Any suggestions/ideas? And ideas on how to do RP such a thing? Getting a working crew together, teachers, etc..

My paladin has recently taken the landlord feat, and is currently building a temple to her goddess (Ilmater). Once the temple is done, she'll add a hospital and after that, a monastery to train Ilmateran monks.

If you're in the Underdark, I'd suggest some sort of watch station to look out for potential threats from down there to the surface.

Or you could declare it nutral ground and try and make it a place where being from the surface and Underdark can come to trade and work out issues peacfully ( with your paladin pals setting in if people don't want to be peaceful). Sort of like an Underdark version of Babylon 5.

That's what the cleric in the party wants to do, being the cleric of the god of travel and adventure, but he was more or less considering having planar portals to all kinds of places. And as soon as he started with things like "nine hells, abyss, plane of negative energy" i quickly veto'd that.

Turn it into a kind of prison/mental asylum for deranged and usurped tyrants :D . These people need help and love; and the isolation of the underdark is excellent as it is more easily fortified and is less likely to have henchmen trying to break out the prisoners. You can have the druid make nice calming gardens and water features. The dwarves could be prison guards/orderlies:smirk: and you know, if you DO get invaded and the prisoners (the filthiest most evil scum on the planet) all perish... who cares?

for some reason paladins and not caring don't seem to mix.

Who incidentally is the one going through all the trouble of building something there at all :)

So does my idea have merit, or does the Pally Dan not care either way?

Well, dungeon is up tomorrow,
i'll probably go for a temporal set-up to allow workers to set up, start making new caves, and furnish temporary living space.
