**Warning may contain some minor spoilers to the Module RttToEE**

Hi all, first time poster in there forums, a bit of a lurker. But now down to the point, I'm having personality conflicts with a character I am currently playing, with what I believe he should be and what he has to be for the party's sake.

My current game is 3 people, 4 charcter (dm playing our cleric due to lack of players), and we are going thru Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil. We are in the Forgotten Realms, and my character is a wild human from the rashemen area. ("Wild" is a template based off of the overpowered feral template but brought down to speed with everything else) He is actually rather young (15) and wound up in the dalelands due to a botched teleport spell cast during his first fight against the Red Wizards of Thay(he has a undying hatred of them). He has since then joined a army, fought against a army of demons and wound up in a small town, a member of their guard.

From there on starts his adventure carrier, he joined up with 3 other adventurers (A male halfling wizards, a human male thief, and a female half drow fighter/cleric). From there he went thru the moat house, the old temple, and is now on the outskirts of the Crater Ridge Mines. His next level he will gain enterance into the prestige class Runescarred Berserker from the Unapproachable East book.

My problem is this, I can't reliably get a bead on how I should play him. The party needs someone to take charge alot of times, but this character is very impetious and stumbles alot in conversations with others (14 int, 15 wis, 11 cha) I'm also trying to play up the culture shock of his seperatist upbringing in his tribe in rashemen. This has been accomplished rather easily thru his awe at orcs/elves/halflings and his ease of acceptance to the Half Drow. But I would like to play this character more brash and as a mid teen would be, but I cannot for the other players are either new to DnD, extremally quiet, or THE DM!!! How do I go about this people, I'm at a loss for ideas. Between his rashemi beliefs, his seperatist upbringing, and his general youth, I really shouldn't be taking the party lead.

Other notes we may be getting a new cleric as soon as I can find a player willing to do it, and I am working on that right now. Till then it looks as if I'm party leader. :(

Your character doesn't need to be the leader. You can always make some obvious stupid suggestions about what to do, and wait for a reaction from the extremely quiet players.

This way you might get the group start acting, it might give a few silly/commical moments too. Just start stumbling in conversations so badly that one of the other players wants to take over the conversation.

Just have fun, playing your character as you want. And hopefully the new players pick up the game pretty quickly and say: "Stop stumbling, let me do the talking".

One other thing I would say about this:

It sounds like you are the experienced member of your gaming group. As such the other players will look to you for leadership, even if your CHARACTER would not lead. They have yet to make that distinction. Therefore, you shoudl take them under your wing. Explain how to roleplay, give them advice on ways to act, etc. Do not be heavy-handed or condescending, just helpful. Explain to them that there is no way your character would lead the party anywhere. It is just not in his makeup. Take a look at the other characters in the game and see who seems to fill the bill in terms of party leader best. Pull the player of that character to the side and talk to him/her. Most often in cases like this, the other players are simply unsure of how to proceed. You, the player, can in effect lead the party with out having your CHARACTER lead it. Soon enough, the others will learn how it is done, and great fun will be had by all.
