| JohnGalt08-17-05, 02:18 AM | Hi. I am making an archer character that right now is Ranger 3/Scout 3/Horizon Walker 6. I want to take a level of Wizard, then finish out my character with Arcane Archer. However I am not sure how to explain this character wise. I could use the cliched "Oh, I was buddy buddy with the Wizard since day one" thing, but I don't really want to. Is there any other way to explain a sudden penchant for arcane knowledge, and how do I explain how I bypassed the years of preparation and research that a wizard normally has to go through. Any ideas will be appreciated. |

Or you could just see another arcane archer at work and aspire to that Prc, maybe even receiving training from that Npc. If you were evil you could meet the arcane spell requirement and transition into AA as part of your training. Bard is probably better flavor-wise if not inefficient in just meeting the arcane requirement. |

After several days/hours of burning candles and inner reflection you felt something shift in your body, a spark that wasn't there before. Low and behold next level your new found magical ability blossoms into a level of sorcerer and opens the door to a finishing class. Horay! |

To draw on a real-life example, I knew someone who hated study and was pretty lazy with anything academic, until he met this girl whose native language wasn't one he knew. Even though she could speak his language, he threw himself at the project of learning hers. He was buying books, repeating phrases over and over to himself, doing exercises and so on and so forth. I know that arcane magic is different to a language, but I think there are some useful parallels here. And don't limit yourself to the love of a person. It could be the love of a place (e.g. a threatened town) or concept (e.g. enlightenment). |
