| The Jake03-21-07, 07:06 PM | I was talking to a DM mate of mine yesterday and we alternate running different campaigns. In talking about a potentially new campaign, the discussion for an ocean adventure came about. I mentioned about my desire to play an elven wizard but if we play an oceanic campaign, a pirate. I thought about how I could merge the two. Was toying with a CN pirate elf druid/wiz/arcane heirophant (talking parrot or monkey as his familiar or something). We looked at all the rules and while it is permissible by RAW, we both struggled to conceptualise how it could be done -- what sort of backstory would be appropriate for the character. Has anyone got any ideas? |

If you absolutly want to be part druid, you can be an oceanic druid that joined a pirate crew to scare potentiel defiler away from your precious ocean. Also, look in stormwrack, there's nice maritime based spells, a list of the effect PHB spells have on ship, new weapons and other stuuf like that. |
| The Jake03-21-07, 07:31 PM | I imagined an Oceanic druid anyway. What I liked about druid was the spells for oceanic travel and warfare. Lots of potential! :) |
| ericSHINRA03-21-07, 09:07 PM | My last Wizard was a swashbuckler-type. Though the campaign wasn't aquatic in nature, I imagine I would have taken a level or two in Swashbuckler. Complete Adventurers mentions some Wizards become Dread Pirates and use their magic to mask their ships until just before an attack or to incapicate a vessel's crew. You could also just specialize in a bit of black magic/voodoo ala Necromancy and Illusions. |
| The Jake03-22-07, 12:38 AM | I will prolly drop druid and go a wizard with some levels in loremaster to simulate knowledge of sea ports, etc. I could build a gish but I'm not sure I want to be one (last char I played was a rogue-gish). |
| fiendish_platypus03-22-07, 07:30 AM | If you are going to go Swashbuckler I would recommend 3 levels, that way you get insightful strike (+int to damage) |
| Daxen03-23-07, 04:02 PM | Get a copy of Stormwrack and hold it tightly. It will be your greatest ally those long month's at sea. With Feats Like Ship's Mage, Storm Magic, Old Salt, Scourge of the Seas, and Sailor's Balance you'll be a fine Pirate and Wizard all at once. and you can look into PrC's like Sea Witch and Stormcaster. I think you will enjoy using it. And the Spells dear merciful Poseiden the spells. |
