| Elias Tyleil09-13-05, 12:11 PM | Are there any rules for players with handicaps?(Blind, deaf, missing a limb?) |
| Tuah Shinguru09-13-05, 05:52 PM | Not that I know of... except that Blind Fight might come in handy... :P |
| Sluagh09-13-05, 09:39 PM | There is an optional flaw system in Unearthed Arcana that covers some of that. I'm not certain which handicaps/flaws are covered, but they're there. I know that mute isn't one of them though. |
| Elias Tyleil09-14-05, 07:00 AM | I was just wonderin cause I've got an idea for a character that is blind but his other senses would be stronger. Also I was gonna try to work in some kinda psychic power, kinda like Kenshi from Mortal Combat. |
| Save-vs-DM09-14-05, 07:40 AM | Elias: I played a blind monk once. I treated blind as a Flaw like those found in Unearthed Arcana. New Flaw Blind You have been permanently blinded. Effect: You automatically fail any skill check or activity related to vision (such as Spot checks or reading). All opponents are considered to have total concealment relative to you. This blindness may never be cured. Because you have become accustomed to your blindness, you do not suffer some of the penalties related to blindness. You may move at your full speed, do not loose your Dexterity bonus to Armor Class, do not suffer the usual -2 penalty to Armor Class and do not suffer a -4 Penalty on Strength- and Dexterity-based skill checks. Generally I've found that most people pick up Blind-Fight as their bonus feat from taking this flaw. Many also take the Hear the Unseen feat from the Complete Adventurer to compliment this. Even with those feats, this is a tough challenge. I often give players who go this route Skill Focus (Listen) as a bonus feat as well. Though I have to admit that being blinded does have some advantages. Ypu are actually immune to anything that is sight based. This includes: Dragon Fear, Mummy Fear, Fear Auras in general, Phantasms, Patterns, most illusions and a few other things. If you go this route, I *highly* recommend either Bard or Monk. If you check out Marvel 1602 (comic book) you can see Daredevil as an Irish bard. I gotta say, if that doesn't make you want to play a blind Bard, I don't know what will :) Cheers, Save vs DM |

I also played an artificer in a seafaring campaign who lost her legs and had stone replacements made (magically animated of course). She had crap swim checks, but it added a nice bit of flavor to the character (she couldnt walk in an antimagic field, and she kicked really hard). Funtimes all around. As a GM, I had a chance to role play a pyro who had lost his sight by having his eyes gauged out by the enemy (the PCs tried to help the best they could). He was able to use the above mentioned power to "see" enemies and burn them to bits! yay! ~Rain~ |
