| Arthur_Pendragon12-26-03, 09:45 PM | I'm working on a LE necromancer wizard, for an evil campaign. I really dislike the idea of emphasising zomibes, or rotting corpses laying about. Rather I like the idea of a cultured, "clean", learned character, that could still suck the soul out of your body if you tick him off. Additionally if he did create undead, I figure he'd keep them in pristine "living" like condition as possible (in this setting undead are alway intellegent) because he hates the filth of decay and rot. Essentially I was thinking he would act a bit like the character in the Hannibal Lecter movies ( Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal, and Red Dragon ). Intellegent, observant, sharp minded, perhaps with a dark sense of humor, insightful into the human psyche. Trouble is, aside from the things I've mentioned above, I could use some help coming up with more details on how to play such a character. Such as habits, mannerisms, attitudes, etc. that help portray that personality and mind set. |

He may chastice good party members for helping diseased or dirty poor people ("What kind of a hero is a paladin? He throws himself at sticky, stinking monsters and lays his hands on sticky, stinking peasents!") Perhaps he believes his on a rightous quest: to make death and undeath a safe and clean business rather than the filth and mess other necros tend to make it. He wants to make death and unlife a sterile process, without all the blood, screaming, and rotting. Perhaps then people will view necromancy and death with a less "pee-their-pants" attitude and embrace unlife! Then what glory will your character know when all mankind loves and accepts the process of death and unlife now that YOU have removed the undesireable aspects and proven that there is nothing to fear about it. Now, that's a hero... :D |
| Arthur_Pendragon12-28-03, 03:06 PM | Perhaps. I definately planned on the creation of a new type of undead, which are essentially like zombies, but not slowed down, and essentially retain most semblance of life. So if he killed somone, raised them into this new undead, and used magic to perserve their body (and create psudeo-body functions (heartbeat, the action of inhaling and exhaling, etc.), they could go on about "living" possibly unaware they are even dead and that they would be under the casters control. . . I was thinking of having him become a lich at one point too... However, I'm not so sure about him constantly worry about filth...I mean after all he is going to get blood all over himself when he operates on people/things. He'd just be happy to clean himself up afterward. I see him as very high Int (he has Int 18), and I think he would understand the reasoning behind the paladin's actions, he would just be more concerning with other things.... Any other suggestions on how to role playing him? |
| TinySilverChalice12-28-03, 05:04 PM | About the preservation of bodies: the BoEF has a neato little item called a "Shirt of Repose" (or something like that). Pretty much its created with Gentle Repose and Craft Wonderous Item. You put it on fresh undead and it keeps them looking and working freshly. It's cited as the way vampires retain their ablity to reproduce after death. Only problem is that if its removed, the rotting starts again. Cool idea about creating undead that don't know their undead. A good Geas might help there also. I've had necros in the past, and I've always had the toughest time deciding if they want to become a lich or a vampire. Vampires get all the looks and sex appeal but liches get all the power. What's a necro to do? If he does have a high enough intellegence though to understand why paladins and the like do what they do, then surely he knows why what he does is oviously the best course of action. If he truly believes he's cultured, then a sense of superiorty certainly is paired with it. You'll have to map out what he thinks are cilvilized and uncivilized actions, like I assumed about him imagining the paladin's actions being uncivilized. I think I just may steal the idea of the "Cleanser of the Death Process". :D Sounds like the best way to get that LN necro I've always wanted to play. |
