My character is Sorcerer 6/Barbarian 1/ Rage Mage 2. What are the best ways to play as a rage mage. I've never really played a magic user before, so I was just wondering of anyone out there has ever played a Rage Mage before and how they played it, or if someone hasn't played one before but has an idea of how to play a Rage Mage. So yeah, just curious of how to optimize my character in the game play.

Are you looking for builds, backgrounds, or play styles?

Sounds like the last.

Tips will depend on the setting and style you are going for. Personally I think rage-mage is best suited to Forgotten Realms. They can fit in nicely in Rashemen with a little bit of work. Of course if you go that route you need to know the place. Rashemen is a heavily forested nation filled with spirits and ruled over by witches who are in turn guarded by barbarians. If you play one of these barbarians there is the question of why you are without a witch to guard. You may be on some sort of personnal trial of strength or may have lost the witch you were tied to. Give me a little more info and I'll see if I can help a little more.

I find the very idea of a rage mage to be pretty damn interesting. This bumbling mage tries to fire off a spell, it fails, he goes ballistic :P

hehe

*ahem* Anyway, what are you, are barbarian who uses magic or a mage who has anger managment issues? That will decide alot of the flavour of your character.

My barbarian/wizard hasn't gone into rage mage yet and may not, because I don't like giving up another caster level. I mostly play him as a smart barbarian, he doesn't charge into masses of enemies, but ignores magic and relies on his great ax versus foes that look weak.

Against tough foes, he'll cast a buff spell and move up, hoping to entice the enemy into charging him, so he can rage and get a full attack.

My character is a magic user that has anger issues. I like the idea of the rage mage because when raging, it increases the DC for his spells. Right now he is neutral good, but I see his alignment possibly changing because of the way I play him. After taking the level of a barbarian after being a sorcerer, he starting to become a more focused on obtaining more power than being a balanced magic user, plus most of his spells are evocation and necromancy, with his spell focus on necromancy. Hope this helps any of you with answering my question.
