I figure this would be a cool thing to do.
Dunno bout the LA for it, but I imagine at the starting level I'd have money enough at least for a Headband of Intellect +1 to pull my intelligence above the animal range.
As for class, I was thinking Druid, and worshipping the Orcwort tree as a god.
Of course playing a communal-minded Orcish Plantman begat from a CR 20 creature might cause some sort of focus issues...
Any suggestions?

Orcworts Only live for 48 hours, and since they have no lips, so Verbal Component spells are not usuable.

interesting idea.

IF you do want the wortling to live, have it so that as you were being begat/made, a small mage battle was going at the time, and a misfired and screwed up temporal stasis spell was put on your mother as you came out? Thus your forever young, and ostracized. Works well with the headband of intellect, seeing that the hate that others generate for you has caused you to strive to be their better. The verbal spell component point is valid, however just don't cost verbal spells or use that to your advantage and cast an occasional verbal spell causing it to fail.

Also just out of curiosity, where do you have enough money starting out to get a headband of intellect +1? ^^;;

Well...a Headband costs 500 gold to be manufactured...for +1, assuming there was a very generous wizard around (perhaps the same guy that caused the wortling to have a life span).
*scratches out Druid* What class would be good then?
Making a mouthless plant-man with a lifespan of 48 hours is hard.
