So the concept is a monk raised in a secluded and little known monastary in the Spine of the World that was destroyed by orcs and he is the only survivor. Rather than seek vengeance on orcs he seeks to bring order to them and indeed bring his own personal definition of "order" to all races on Toril all the way down to the Underdark. Now the question is how to play this character in the confines of a party of adventurers who would more likely want to slaughter a cave of kobolds rather than try to subjugate them and whip them into an army. How can I roleplay him true to the concept and progress his own personal goals without compromising the group?

Your character is not stupid. He should know that when he and his friends are attacked by a bunch of orcs, the best way to see next morning is to hit before and talk later. But if he can manage to capture a kobold (by stunning him) and teach him the Way of the Order later, he should do it. Being lawful evil, he doesn't care if the poor kobold is actually concerned of having all his friends killed.
You should maximize you diplomacy (or perform: oratory) skill, and teach to lesser humanoids the way of the order.
You should also moralize the other PCs each time they let no survivor: "How do you think I'll bring order to those poor lads if you kill them before I can teach them?" Whenever the party is making a plan, you should insist on taking as many prisoners as possible, so you can teach them.
Discuss with your DM for a way to gain a few "Disciples", they could be either kobolds, goblins, orcs, troglodytes, all monks (or expert) of level 1. If you are high-level enough, take the leadership feat, otherwise a single disciple (that you have to keep tied up just in case he didn't understand the Way of the Order yet) would be great.

thanks for the feedback. I was a little worried that that kind of activity would make me seem like the player who never goes along with the the party wants to do. The one who's always trying to "do his own thing."

Consider pointing out to your partymates that, by turning enemies into allies, the party gains cannon fodder and extra targets for the enemy to focus on. This increases the odds that the PCs will survive a difficult fight.

plus if you get a bunch of them, none of you have to carry your own gear! I would think it would be the most difficult to get the first one. After that you have support to help turn the others to order. Orcs seem to respect brute force rather than diplomacy, however be careful when exerting that as leadership because your minions could likely turn on you.
