| talam10-25-07, 03:45 PM | I'll just get the Character sheet details out of the way first: Alignment: CG Deity: Tempest/Tempos (the Good aligned Storm god in Faerun was it? I'm playing Expedition to Undermountain) Int: 14 Wis: 8 Cha: 12 So now that I'm done that, my character is a young Warblade, son to a Paladin and Cleric of a LG deity that I have no clue of since I'm not familiar with the Undermountain setting (hell I don't even know if it's FR or Faerun). Inspired by the stories his parents told him about fighting evil and such, my character (whose nickname is Crash for which reasons will be revealed) set off to fight evil! Of course, Crash dislikes how laws restrict his ability to rid the world of evil as he believes that evil needs to be eradicated without attention to law, but must be done so in a way that doesn't cause undue harm to innocents and so on. His choice fighting style is that of a Dragoon, the whole leaping in the air and descending down on them with his halberd. He's also meant to be headstrong and not quite as aware as other people. You can probably determine why his nickname is Crash. The trouble I'm having though is that at what point does headstrong become stupid? How much does having a 8 in wisdom affect his ability to be aware of people? An example is how a male half-elf bard was hitting on my character: I played it as if Crash simply thought that the bard was just being really friendly because "Half-elves are rather easy to get along with and they tend to be pretty friendly." How exactly does a 14 Int, 8 Wis and a 12 Cha interact with each other? |

Still, Tempus is not good-aligned (he's chaotic neutral), so you may wish to take that into account. I would definitely point out that this alignment would not prevent a chaotic good character from worshipping him. Undermountain is indeed a part of Faerun, as it is a massive, fluid dungeon beneath the city of Waterdeep. Depending on how strongly your mind is set on lawful good for your parents' religion, some deities that might fit would be Tyr (LG), Torm (LG), Helm (LN), Lathander (NG), and Ilmater (NG). Sune (CG) is an interesting possibility as she can be worshiped by paladins despite being chaotic good, and would result in the chaotic tendencies your character has embraced. A Wisdom score of 8 does not cripple your character; you're just slightly less perceptive than average. It is very important to note that the average human's Wisdom score is 10. I would say that your reaction to that bard was fairly reasonable. You can't easily tell when people are pulling the wool over your eyes, and you don't really catch the subtleties of social graces well, but you come across affable enough. /woot |

Your characters reaction was within reason as long as the half-elf was at least trying to be subtle. You won't auto -buy any story the rogue throws at you but you'll consider some things the average person wouldn't and buy the occasional story that someone else would hold lingering doubts about. Still I think the god he is looking for is named Valkur or somesuch. A minor diety in the extreme. |

Like they've said with a wisdom of 8 you don't come out completely stupid, and doesn't really give you any incapabilities, I'd say your character just trusts people because they haven't given him any reason not to yet. Charisma 12, would mean that your pretty easy going with people a pleasant aura around you, more pretty then the average day jim, or a smoother tongue then most. The two of them combined gives you a nice roleplaying capability. Nothing out of the ordinary your just used that people like you the world around you has been pretty easy going so far, and why should you be paranoid by anyone who crosses your path. It's not like the whole world is a thief right? And i can't really see why you mentioned the int 14 score. Becaus the other 2 stats are totally irrelevant. With this Intelligence it just means that your a smart guy, was raised good, can learn pretty well. Or your just amazingly good in puzzles. whatever... :) |
| Grimcleaver10-28-07, 05:57 AM | I think a good pick for your character might be Lathander. He's a neutral good god, supporting both LG and CG worshippers. He embodies renewal, dawn, springtime, youth and virility. Not exactly storms, but certainly an active forward-looking force of change and good with strong connections to nature. His holy symbol is a bejeweled sunrise over good lands. As for your Wis. I think you played it about right. A lower than average wisdom doesn't lead to stupidity--so much as perhaps a bit of thoughtlessness or lack of common sense. She tends not to pay attention to signals, tends to overlook other people's thoughts or desires. They can sometimes seem a little flakey. Sometimes callous. Usually though it's because they simple overlook signs or just don't think to care--rather than mean-spiritedness. Sometimes they can be a bit self-centered or bratty. Other times they can just be a little absent-minded, walking out in front of a cart while lost in some inner daydream. I like the character. Sounds like she should be fun. Hope this little rant helps. |
| talam10-30-07, 01:51 AM | Thanks everyone for your help! I've never really roleplayed a character with a below average Wis before so this is a first for me. And Grimcleaver, my character actually is a guy. Everyone was having a good time and laugh at the table as my DM roleplayed the male bard hitting on my slightly oblivious male character. |
