| Kevtar01-20-07, 12:59 PM | Hi all, (I've posted this on the character optimization boards as well) The name of my campaign setting is Bretnae, and one of the more prominent NPCs there is Tezla - the "Elminster" of my setting. However, there is a twist. Tezla was an old PC of mine when I was a kid playing 1st edition. Now that I'm a dad, and seemingly by default, the DM, I've had the chance to reintroduce many of my PCs as NPCs for my sons and their friends. I've never statted our Tezla before because there really hasn't been a need. However, the time has come, and I need to flesh-out this incredibly powerful mage. Still, there is a snag. His strange and sorted history... Back in 1st edition, we were just kids with a loose grasp on the "rules." As such, certain liberties were made. As I have described this character to my sons, Tezla's history and the results of these liberties have been firmly etched into my sons' understanding of Tezla. Now, these have to be represented in 3.5 game mechanics. Can you help? Here are some of the peculiarities of Tezla: 1. He was once human, but then was polymorphed into a "Silver-winged Warrior (1st edition creature from "Mystara ). 2. Later, he was transformed into a type of mindless, crystal construct. However, is group later returned and returned his mind/spirit to this crystal form - so now he was a construct with a conscience. However, he was bereft of the 5 senses 3. Eventually, he heard of two magical creatures (sisters, in a way) who had the ability to transform any inanimate object into a living subject. He traveled the planes of existence searching out the sisters. [I]This was very much like Galactus and Silver Surfer since Tezla gained the help of a cohort who... was a silver-surfer (I know, I know... we were KIDS! ;) The sisters could transform anything into a living creature. However, one method was pure, and the other was corrupt. Unfortunately, Tezla located the corrupted twin, and as a result of transforming his strange form into living matter, certain changes took place: His silver wings were turned to feathers (that still cause damage) His physical features were grossly deformed. He resembles a large, disfigured, humanoid bird - maybe more like a long, lanky Chozo from Metroid. His senses were returned, BUT - they were incredibly heightened, meaning he could see, hear, smell, touch, taste with a type of paranormal prowess. Not only did he feel what other people touched, he felt their physical pain and joy. He also an unwanted empathy, meaning he could feel what other people were feeling (all people, all the time). Finally, he could see well into the future, meaning that he knew how you were going to die, when, and where, etc... I'm not much of an optimizer or all-powerful NPC creator, so I thought I would consult the experts. I particularly like the idea of him having some levels of divine since, as a "construct," he roamed the planes for millenia trying to figure out how to become a living, sensing creature again. Obviously, he is an Epic Level NPC, and the more amazing the better. As far as personality goes, he is cold, indifferent, and meticulous. He completely controls the swirling sea of sensations that assault him. He is dispassionate and calculating in every step. He is pure neutral, and the PCs can't tell if he is evil or not. He lives in a flying citadel with dominated dragons as sentries. He travels the universe taking specimens of creatures and storing them in stasis fields in a twisted menagerie he calls, "the Laboratory." THANKS! |

Could be a cerebremancer (kinda like the mystic theurge)... http://www.d20srd.org/ http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/senseLink.htm http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/senseLinkForced.htm http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/sharePain.htm http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/sharePainForced.htm http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/fateLink.htm All right, he seems to be some kind of construct... Warforged from the ECS and MMIII are quite playable, just tack on wings and it works fine. As far as backstory goes, you seem to have no problems with how the character behaves. Are you familiar with the psionics rules? |
