okay, recently i had a game in which I was the dm. I was a kind of newbie dm but not a horrible one... i hope

anyway, one of the pc was playing a rogue. he seemed to think that all rougues do nothing but steel and murdur there campanions, with the exeption of halflings and kenders. (he killed his own cousen becuse over a potion of cure lite.)

Now i don't know much on the class, but i have a hard time seeing the rog class being all chaotic evil.

the charicters theme was going to be a CN robin hood. he tolled me that all he was doing was stealing from the rich and giving to the poor. (the rich being a 1st lvl monk and the poor being a 1st lvl fighter).

i tried to tell him that he was out of line but he would not listenm to me or the pleas of his suffering palls. he seems to think that, when comming to D&D, he know's all becuase he has the strongest chariter in our circles.

he tried to tell me that he would stop, but i was making to many god calls (a time when the dm would say "I god, do as I say") but 90% of those calls were made in order to keep the other pc's alive.

besides, isn't the dm's job to make omnipitant commands and make the pc's kill orcs, i'm mean, isn't that why we play the game.

please help me. if i am wrong on the rogue, and all they do is kill, then i will humbly appologize. but if i'm right, you have my permision to bash away verbaly (or in this case digitaly) and help him see the truth.

Happy birthday.

Unfortunately, crappy players happen.
If his concept was a CN robin hood type (Robin Hood would be more along the lines of CG though) then he is most definately not playing his character properly

You have two real options.
You can tell him that you don;t like the way hels playing, remind him (calmly) what his class and aligment mean and how hsi concept should be determinign the way he;s acting and tell him what problems he;s causing...

Or you can kick him out.

I reccomend trying the first one before the second.

Well.... CN characters theoretically "could" be like that. I personally think that there is nothing neutral about killing people for their possessions alone (not even the so called "monsters").

The problem in your case does not actually seem to be that the player is playing his character differently from character class or alignment. Your problem is that the player is disrupting your campaign intentionally. A lot of novice DMs enforce rules like "all good characters" just to avoid these kinds of problems. Then you can get the players more easily to work together and can concentrate on the campaign developing. Also their motives are easier to predict if they are good, than if they are neutral or even evil.

I would suggest that you tell this problem player that he should make a new character which has good alignment. Also tell him that you do not want him to disrupt your hard thought out campaign. He should understand that you have not DM'ed before and it is not always easy to learn the ropes. Especially if the players are the ones making trouble intentionally.

If there were witnessess for the murder then you can make the nation's law enforcement forces catch him and execute him. Atleast make him a fugitive NPC, which you can later on use in your campaign as the big bad evil guy :) Perhaps the player has to one day be afraid of his own old apparently-CE character  I also see no reason why the rest of the party would like to stay with that character. He is far too dangerous for them as he could murder them at any moment.

Just get rid of the problem character. Tell the player not to be a problem player and actually help all of the other players and you to have fun. And then just have fun playing the game together.

What to do with a problem player???

You must be new.

Give him a chance to change, and if and when he doesn't, dump him.

Everyone has a different view point about this game.

The advice given has been good, so there is no more good advice i could add to the subject. Which is good.

Cause i'm in an evil mood.

So here are five ways to deal with unsavoury characters (both PCs and people) in a way that lowers you to their level:

1. Invite him to your next session, then don't turn up.

2. Continue making those god calls. I hate them. Everybody hates them. Maybe he will get the idea to leave the game. If not enjoy ruining his fun.

3. Kill his character and make no show that it was an unintentional killing. Create an NPC that is specifically designed to target and kill his character. Have that NPC attack that PC no matter what else resides on the battlefield. Above all, show no mercy.

4. Have the world turn against him, not his PC, but him. Whatever character he makes have the world hate it. Farmerboys spit on him. Horses refuse to carry him. Goblins laugh when he enters their lair. In the the twisted words of Saruman ("There will be no dawn for the world of men" - LotR):

"There will be no glory within the world for him."

5. Finally, always spill soft drink and assorted nibbiles over his character sheet. Always use his dice. Forget to put him in the intiative line up. And always, always, give him negative modifiers for inconsiquential and out-of-game related things (eg. -2 to your attack roll because you smell).

Following this advice won't make you a better DM, heck, it may send you to the hospital ward in a critical condition. But, ever is it satisfying to extract revenge.

A rogue eh.

heh make all your npc characters and all loose belongings in the game tied to a sigia snake sigil and fifteen alarm spells :-D.

Everytime he tries to lift something, everyone's alerted in a very falmboyant manner.

To make things worse, attach a modified faerie fire trap to all items. SO that every time he tries to steal/kill someone he isn't supposed to, have him grow embarrasing limbs and other body parts in the wrong places.

For example, a rhino horn that is very much a phallus symbol grows on his head. in other words, you'd be telling him that he's a d*ck head and he should stop doing what he's doing.
