Possibility of having a Githzerai in a Medieval Fantasy Campaign? [Archive] - Wizards Community

Ever since playing Planescape: Torment (on PC) I have liked the Githzerai, and I thought it might be a good role playing experience to play one in the next campaign I am in. The DM will quite happily take away the Level Adjustment if he doesn't get all his racial abilities/skills at first level (he gets them as he levels up)

The problem is integrating him into a group of other PC's. There will be a couple of humans, a drow and maybe a gnome. This is just a stock standard campaign, with the usual human interaction. How noticeable will he be as an outsider? Can he pass off as an elf?

I would like to play a Ninja, although the other party members would only know me as maybe being a rogue? My class ability to hide as a ninja could be integrated with the fact I am a Gith.

Any suggestions or links to Gith information would be helpful... thanks! :)

One interesting thing is that, as far as I can tell, in Planescape (though not, of course, in Torment in particular), Githyanki are generally better known than Githzerai. Githzerai are considered an "offshoot" of the "main" race of Githyanki, much as Drow are considered an "offshoot" of the "main" race of elves, not vice versa. As such, people with a little bit a planar knowledge might see through your character's "elf" disguise, and think that he's an evil, lich-serving Githyanki. It would take someone with more planar knowledge to recognize that he's actually neither an elf nor a Githyanki, but a Githzerai.

Its interesting to think of chaotic Githzerai. Dak'kon was lawful and all, but it's said that he's rather atypical in that respect. Yet the whole of Githzerai existence on Limbo is based on intense mental discipline. What is it like to play an intensely disciplined person who is extremely anti-authoritarian and hates anything that resembles the slavery of the Illithids?
