That cloistered cleric in Unearthed Arcana really inspired me. I'd like to play one in the next game I play in, and I was thinking of doing the following. Tell me what you think:

This character seems perfect for something modelled after a benedictine monk; burlap robes, tonsure, sandals, the whole nine yards. I'd take vow of poverty (from the book of exalted deeds) except I feel no character of this type is complete without a MASSIVE (50+ pound) holy book he hauls around on his back and sits crosslegged reading at the campfire every night. I figure a cleric of this sort will be extremely charitable and kind, and would also be somewhat sagely. As far as gear, I figure a staff, a chain shirt, and a lantern would probably be about all that would be in character besides the holy text and robes.

If the game uses traits and/or flaws, maybe Absent-Minded and Either Polite or Easygoing, for flaws, almost ANY of them would work, but inattentive and unreactive seem particularly appropriate.

What do you guys think?

Instead of the Chain Shirt, what do you think about taking a monk level? If you are LG, of course...

That might work, but the idea of a lightning-fast unarmed warrior doesn't seem to fit with the original idea...

Not so lightning-fast... He gets flurry of blow, but no speed increase.

Take the Stunning Fist feat. I see him frozing a charging goblin, then returning to his reading, forgetting the goblin, letting a fellow PC finish the foe.
