I am working on a ranger character that will alternate between being a PC (when my friends are DMing) and a NPC (when i am.) I didn't realize it when I fleshed him out, but the way I made him, he's essentially a happy batman. Son of a Noble family in Neverwinter. Parents died when he was a child (the wailing death.) Money, power, resources at his command. I haven't made use of said resources in game, but I'm looking for advice on how to make him a deeper character, so that way I can make some better plot hooks. Because as is, he seems so, generic.

As far as things that make him different, he's very tall, about 6'5". Unlike most characters that fit this stereotype, he is clean, not dark looking at all (red hair, blue eyes, not very imposing.) Also has celestial heritage (an ancestor was a celestial sent to the material plane thinking it was human.)

So any ideas? Either on how to develop him a bit more, or ways to follow this? Is it fine the way it is? I'm new, be kind.

have him get into the planar variatns for ranger.. pursue his heritage.
a nature man, for sure, but in perspective of the multiverse-- a lot of that wealth can be tied to tracking the shifting of the outer planes.
focus on favored enemies, evil outsiders.
have him start obsessing over the hidden evils oin the world... either taking an interest in politics to root out the seed of evil in men,
or becoming more physical, taking the fitght to hell itwelf eventually as a potential planar champion?

You could try rolling on the NPC quirks table in the DMG to get some interesting ideas. I personally would come up with two traits that didn't add up. I played a barbarian who hacked and slashed, but also loved flowers and had to always be clean, which made for an interesting character.

As far as hooks, there is always the batman angle of "who killed the parents" alternately, I might suggest that after losing his whole family, your character might try to hunt down some long lost relatives.
