Ok, kinda weird title I know. But, this is my idea would like some concepts from all of you that are far more creative than I could ever be. Look up a Honey badger in google if you do not know what they are. But, a Barbarian that tribe focuses on the honey badger. Need a description of the tribe or ideas.

I have a few ideas but would like to think what you guys think. Examples of what I am sorta talking about is......

1. How does the tribe run? You know who is the boss, is it diplomatic/ or is their a main leader. If there is one leader how is he chosen or does he choose himself.

2. Since the Honey Badger is a desert animal I would have to say it would be a migrating tribe. following the animals and keeping away from predetors. Another question for everyone is why would a tribe member such as this be an adventurer.

3. I would love to hear any descriptions for a character like this. Like physical descriptions what you all picture. Maybe fighting techniques. Just anything to help me out and get some more detail for my character background.

After You all help I will put together a full background and post here on the webisit so everyone can see and get any other ideas for me.

Thank you all in advance.

I felt inspired. :) Hope you like it. Comments appreciated!

The honey badger barbarians are a strange, some would even say weird, group of people.

The men and women of this tribe form in fact two different clans, with several families each. They do not have a fixed homestead, but constantly move through their home ranges, often sleeping in at a different place each night, or day depending on the season. They are out at dawn and dusk during summer and during the day in the cold winters. The honeybadger clans never meet for longer than two weeks at a time before going their separate ways again. They do not form stable pairs beyond those two weeks and the men play no role in raising the children up to the age of ten, when the male children join a male "family".

There are several main differences between both clans:

-The men roam extremely far and know no boundaries among "families, often switching "families" when they meet others. The he woman travel not quite as far and wide, stay with their families and rarely does one family travel through an area that is usually used by a different family.

- The male "families" are lead by whoever is deemed most fit to lead. The choice of who is most fit to lead depends on the group, it might be force of personality, insight, knowledge of the region or just brute force. The female families are led by a circle of wise women, presided by the eldest of them that is still capable of handling such a job.

- The men most often travel in small groups of no more than ten, with no children younger than about ten. The women often form larger groups of thirty or more people with many children among them, also males younger than ten.

*******

The 'average' honeybadger barbarian is:
- Fiercely loyal to his tribe against non-tribe members.
- Seeks to avoid conflict between families. (Even among families of conflicting alignements or goals. If there is a conflict and they cannot come to terms, they're more likely to both abandon their goals than to push the conflict.)
- Is very tenacious once he's decided on a course of action. (Some say stubborn)
- Loves to eat as much as he can in one go, even if that means that he'll be sick/go without food for the next three days.
- Hard to anger, but a fury once he's angry.

Most honeybadger barbarians:
- Use a bow and spears (long and short), wear light armour and don't carry much metal around.
- Can ride anything that can be ridden, horse, camel, donkey, mule, dog ...
- Think of animals in terms of utility: if it can't be ridden, trained for a purpose or eaten, it's either a nuisance or a danger. If it is a nuisance, it's either frightened away or disposed of, if it's a danger, it's either eliminated or avoided, although more likely eliminated.

**************

Any adventuring honeybadger tribe member is most likely a man, as they are not as strongly attached to their homeland. But it isn't unheard of for the occasional women to adventure. A honeybadger tribe member is quite likely to adopt whoever he's adventuring with as his new family, although he will surely have some difficulties coping with the fact that his new family might include members of both sexes. Due to his background, he or she will also have a lot of difficulties understanding why other people would for example marry, or keep pets, or would like to encase themselves in metal ...

Thank you Mysteria,

I greatly appreciate your detail and imagination. I really do like the different "families" and the women and men seperation. A great tool for roleplaying purposes. Could start some wonderful conversations because 2 of the players in my group are females and mostly play female characters.

I was thinking about this. If you re-read this post tell me how you like it. The riding thing is great but I was thinking about honey badgers and what their uses could be, since they are actual animals. Maybe the men families could have one in their group and train it. Have competitons against other male familes and even a few of other individuals wanting to test their pet verse a Ratel. Just for sport since wasting such a great animal would be a horrible crime. Just fight them till one is injured or looks as it has lost the fight. A sleep spell or something could stop the fight and the pets could be healed fully. Both to be praised for their tenacity and great skill.

Just an idea I have been throwing around. Thank you again it has got my mind rolling in different directions and I really do like this idea. Anyone else please post. Open to all ideas. Thank you all.

thanks, you're welcome.

The reason I did't integrate honey badgers as trained animals as I viewed them rather as animals that would be held in high esteem by the clan for his independence, toughness and tenaciousness. Besides, I think they'd be hard to train.

I do like your idea of fighting matches however, and the sleep spells is an excellent idea!
