| Silverswordmaster04-09-08, 08:38 PM | Hey fellow roleplayers. Just looking for some imput/output on my new character, Rath Ti'Kitsuni. Yes, I know the name is a bit... not that great, but I was pressed for a character name and this is the first thing to pop into my head and it stuck ok?!? Anyway, here is what I have so far, told fo Rath's point of view, for a bit of what he looks like, he is a Human, about five foot eleven, who wears a full suit of combat armor that seems to be modeled off of a Armored Flightsuit. (It is acually)). He's a bit taller with the armor on, a good Six foot two inches, thanks to the combat boots and other various parts of the armor that are built in to increase his strength, dex, and the like. He's a bit gruff, never takes his helm off, which looks a bit like a scout troopers helm only a light camo green, not that nasty olive color. -----In character----- My name is Rath Ti'Kitsuni, of the Blue Fox mercenarys, I'm 19, and there is not much more you need to know about that. I was born on Nar-Shadda, lucky me for being born on the good side of the Hutts. Peh, Slime, scum, and money, thats all a Hutt cares about. I was born into a family of Mercenarys, no suprise there, and saw little of the outside world. My life revolved around three things. Combat, Training, and the Code. The code is simple, the code is the way of life of a Fox: Through combat I gain knowlage, though knowlage I gain skill, though skill I discover ability, though ability I create power, though power I create challanges, though challanges I defeat my enemys, though enemys I discover combat, and the cycle shall repeat. As a Soilder, I know no limit to my abilitys and skills, though I am not exactly the nicest guy around, nor am I polite, it does not matter to me. From the start of my days as a young scout, honeing my skills on the outer rim, developing amazing dexterity and my abilitys with a blaster, to my return to my family as a young man at 16, ready to discover more about being a Mercenary, to the fall of the Republic and my... purchase, I suppose, of my skill as a warrior by the group of rebels that are fighting the Emperor. Peh, it does not matter as long as I might find a challange suitable for me and my armor. |

The first thing is: Mercenaries rarely form families. Soldier for hire is a dangerous job and a lot of mercenaries don't have long and celebrated careers. Mostly short ones that end in a smoky crater. The kind of guy that gets with a mercenary outfit isn't looking for a place to raise his children. He's looking to get paid a good amount of money by employing violence. The whole code of honor you've typed out, it doesn't really sound violent sociopath that will do pretty much anything to anyone for a good sum of money. It sounds more like a martial artist/monestary thing. My view of mercenaries is a little tainted by a webcomic I read. www.schlockmercenary.com |

True enough Radijs; but remember that while Mercenaries are the nasty soldier for hire that we all hate and dispise at times, love and worship at others, you have to remember that there are more then ONE kind of Merc. For example, this 'family' I have created is more of a... well, a clan or something of the like. Think 'The Godfather' without the italian accents and the nice suits, and most of the crime. They work togeather to trade information, they trust eachother enough to be able to work with the others, and they all belive in once centeral 'Code' which guilds their actions. Come to think of it, some Mercenaries are also much more honorable then others, this is one of those few honorable groups. Mercenaries can have real families. They needed to get started in their job for SOME reason. Moving on: The whole code of honor you've typed out, it doesn't really sound violent sociopath that will do pretty much anything to anyone for a good sum of money. It sounds more like a martial artist/monestary thing. Like I said before, not all mercenarys are violent sociopaths. My character is sain (to a point) but only because he is honorable. I mean, if he was the violent sociopath you make all mercenarys out to be, then he would not be working with the rebels... in fact, he probobly would be dead right now, charred to a crisp by blaster fire, killed by the empire or the rebels, or even in a shootout with a person he was hired to kill. |
| Radijs04-10-08, 08:33 AM | Ah I see. That makes a lot more sense. |
| Heliomance04-10-08, 09:05 AM | Nothing wrong with being a mercenary, if you're fighting for the right reasons. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keill_Randor) |
| Silverswordmaster04-10-08, 08:01 PM | Also, just a little side note I desided to add in a afterthought, is that the 'code' in itself is nothing. Its how you follow or 'take to' the code that matters. That leads to all sorts of people. For your crazed sociopath type merc, the code states the simplicity of their job: Kill, get money, get skill, kill more, become invincible in your own right. For Rath, its more along the lines of: Discover the challange and rise to it, after that, figure out what I learned from it, hone that knowlege into a new skill, and then seek the next, higher challange, and continue on. It all depends on how you look at it. |
| Radijs04-11-08, 11:07 AM | Why does your character follow this code? And how does he feel about following it? Does he have any aspirations other then becoming better at his job or becoming stronger? He grew up somewhere, in what kind of conditions did he grow up and how did this help form his outlook on the world? Has he has had challenges in the past which he was unable to overcome? How does he deal with failure? Just shooting a few questions that might add a few things. The description that you've given from the PoV from the character leaves out a lot of things. |

Ok, In order: Rath follows the code because he grew up with it, and throughout his life, it has proven true again and again, but what really settled his mind on the code was when he got ready to graduate from Boot. He had a close friend, and a love, named Tiasha Hitori, who was one of the best soldiers in the camp, always one up on him. His final challange to graduate was to defeat Tiasha in a one on one duel, any weapons, any kind of armor, no rules. As the code states, Through combat I gain knowledge, though knowledge I gain skill, though skill I discover ability, though ability I create power, though power I create challenges, though challenges I defeat my enemies, though enemies I discover combat, and the cycle shall repeat. He used the first part of the code to give himself a combatent edge, because he had fought Tiasha many times before, he used the seconed part of the code, as though the battles with Tiasha, he learned to become stronger, to use his two pistols with pinpoint precision. He used the third part of the code to train those skills to develop his dexterity, and his ablity to dodge and dance around blaster bolts and vibroswords alike. The fourth part of the code drove him to train even more so he could create his final challenge of bootcamp, or fighting Tiasha, which led him to the fifth and final part of the code before it repeats, victory though all you have learned, which led him to beat Tiasha, and to his graduation as a Mercenary of the Blue Fox. As for the code itself, he belives it could be refined into a more... useable form that could be applyed to all forms of life, instead of just combat, and he personally feels that those who do not follow the code can't live up to their full combat potential. He loves combat more then just about anything else in the world, and if you can get him talking about himself (which is really freakin hard), and his past, he would tell you that his greatest goal in life is to become the leader of the Blue Fox clan and ask Tiasha to marry him. Go figure. He grew up in the outer rim, on the edge of the known Galaxy, where the lawless rule and the law is a figurehead that is so corrupt that its lawless anyway. His family, the Blue Fox clan, discoverd him half-dead and alone, and took him in. The Blue Fox clan and the Black Fox clan, two rival Mercinary clans, are well known in Fringe space, as they control almost all of the Guns-for-hire jobs out on the Fringe. Blue Foxes are known for their good will and can-do additude, taking on any challange as long as it was interesting, while the Black Foxes are known for their dark will and lack of... truth. They are all about the kill and the hunt, care nothing for human life or eachother, just blood and gore. Because of the feirce compition between Black and Blue Foxes, Rath learned 'Shoot first, ask questions later.' and 'One shot, one kill.' as the main ways of the Galaxy, so he has a rather odd look on life and death. The only challange he has failed in the past was his first mission as a Blue Fox, in which he was ordered to kill a target, but at the last seconed, he realised that his target had a little girl in his arms, and could not pull the trigger. He wound up badly injured and scarred all across his left arm, though it is hidden by his armor, and he delt with his failure very badly. His first mission, ruined forever by his inabilty to pull the trigger. After that failure, he vowed never to falter in his actions ever again, and now he takes everything in stride, his failures can be delt with afterwards, and are pushed aside.
