| SmiloDan10-11-04, 12:10 PM | My 6'6" really manly male human barbarian was reincarnated into a 5'0" half-elf woman!!! He is a devout worshipper of Tempus, and was considering taking some cleric levels before the Event. He is a plains barbarian from the Shaar in the Realms. So, now he's trapped in a woman's body. How is he going to deal with this? He really wants his old body back, obviously. If it helps, he has Str 18, Dex 16, Con 14, Int 8, Wis 13, Cha 10. At least none of his stats changed with the reincarnation. I'm considering multiclassing into Rogue to get Disguise so I can at least LOOK like a man. At least my DM has a really cool figure of an axe-wielding woman... |
| strockrow10-11-04, 01:34 PM | Just roleplay it out, you don't need rogue levels. After all, I think it would be absolutely hilarious if he continued trying to act like a man (considering his int, I wouldn't be too surprised if he didn't get some differences between males and females). Poor attempts to dress up only make it better. (and if you need a boost, hats of disguise are cheap) |
| SmiloDan10-11-04, 02:16 PM | Yeah, but I don't wanna be a woman! I wanna be a man! I am so gonna "crossdress" as a dude. I'm a man in a woman's body, pretending to be a man. This is so confusing, and my guy only has an 8 Int! Yikes! It must be some kind of challenge by Tempus... |
| Merxis10-11-04, 08:58 PM | First off... LOL  Secondly... Levels in Rogue are not necessary to get ranks in Disguise, having them be Cross-Class is probably fine, considering its difficult to imagine and keep a sense of realism where you can stand up to a good level of scrutiny and still be able to fake people out, especially considering stats like that (this is removed if your playing in an Anime generator and are all Bishonen or whatever, which Im assuming your not.) Hilarious attempts I think are the way to go untill you get more ranks, but I would suggest making a serious attempt to get a decent disguise but I don't see a reason to go overboard. A hat of Disguise would be a good way to go if you just want to basically ignore the issue instead of having some fun with it. As a hint for making yourself look like your old self, I'd suggets heavy armor (as a barb you don't loose that much for wearing it). |

You may not really have to disguise your character as a man, depending. It's generally considered more acceptable for a woman to be manly than for the reverse, so your character might actually be able to get by reasonably well with a butch haircut, no makeup, men's clothes, masculine mannerisms, and the works. In fact, your character may end up being assumed to be a short man even without using disguise--disguise would be used to make him look different from his normal appearance, so if his normal appearance (as opposed to one specifically altered) were manly enough, it would probably be unnecessary. Keep in mind that just as it's more acceptable for women to be manly than the reverse, it's also easier for a woman to pass as a man than the reverse, as not only are masculine cues given more weight, but someone with an androgynous appearance will frequently simply be assumed to be male. (Add the mannerisms on top of that, and there you go.) Going back to the general RP thing, you now have a transsexual character--not male-to-female, but female-to-male, as he now is going to have to find some means to get his body masculinized. This calls into question what kind of means are available--while it would take a Wish or the like to get the character's actual body back, a "mere" change of sex might be simpler. I'm assuming medicine is not advanced enough in your campaign for your character to obtain androgen supplements, genital reassignment surgery (hell, FTM surgery is pretty inadequate now), or the like; but he may be able to get simpler things like a mastectomy. Beyond that, you're probably looking for some kind of magic that causes a physical change with a duration of instantaneous (so that it actually changes what the character's "natural" form is, as opposed to being something that could be dispelled or the like). I'm thinking you could start with Alter Self as the base spell, add the ability to affect individuals other than the caster, weaken it so that it can only effect small changes (i.e., could change sex characteristics, but no change from Human to Lizardfolk), and change its duration to "instantaneous." I'm not sure what level the spell would be, but it's guaranteed to be FAR simpler than Wish or even Limited Wish; and it can at least resolve your character's gender dysphoria, if not his longing for his old body as a whole. I would suggest asking your DM if there are already casters in the world who know the spell as opposed to having to hire one to actually research it--transsexuality probably exists outside of your character, so it's likely that at least a few know the spell and could offer it commercially. Some may even offer it more as a gift (free or at a much more reasonable price than the normal cost for a spell) than a commercial service--particularly, I'd gamble that many of the casters who know the spell are transsexual themselves (there's little better cause to learn magic than when you have a deep personal stake in what you can do with that magic), and thus they may very well empathize, even if your character's circumstances are a little different (birth versus rebirth). In fact, rather than making it a matter of "OK, you pay X gold for the spell," your DM could make a mini-adventure or plot out of finding someone who knows the spell and make a free casting an end reward. ~Belladonna Knight |
| Murr-Quan Lord #210-12-04, 01:28 PM | Alternately, one could just play it for laughs and quest for a Wish spell to restore him. ^.^ |
| Hizar10-12-04, 06:19 PM | Pay a Wizard to polymorph you into a man. this is expensive (not sure how much don't have my books with me) but it will work. you won't neccasarly look the same but the gender will be right. BTW I have played a charcter that was changed into a women and it stunk! RPing it is hard in and out of charcter unfortunatly an ancient relic changed me and I couldn't polymorph back. |
| Belladonna501210-12-04, 09:36 PM | Alternately, one could just play it for laughs and quest for a Wish spell to restore him. ^.^ That's just plain mean. :( Pay a Wizard to polymorph you into a man. this is expensive (not sure how much don't have my books with me) but it will work. you won't neccasarly look the same but the gender will be right. The problem is that the duration is "permanent" as opposed to "instantaneous," meaning the effect can be dispelled (turning him back into a woman and making that expense a waste) and would be suppressed in areas of antimagic. If he wants to do this right, the fix he gets needs to have a duration of instantaneous. ~Belladonna Knight |
| Needle10-12-04, 11:29 PM | You could have your party wizard research an 'instantanious' version of the spell. Or perhaps a ritual... or a belt of.. i forget the name.. the gender changing one. |
| SmiloDan10-13-04, 11:42 AM | All are very good suggestions...too bad my PC has an Int of 8 and is a barbarian, so he (she?) doesn't know too much about "that magic stuff." And OOC, I'm saving up to get my +1 Axe Holy. So I don't want to waste money on a cosmetic device...also, cosmetics are for girls, and I'm still a manly man, somewhere deep inside! ;) The special alter-self spells might work. I heard a rumor about a hermit near the Great Rift... |
| Cantankerous10-14-04, 05:25 AM | This is one of those few things that I still have against D&D and the 3E rules in particular: a guy who is 6'6" and built like a tank I can see with a 18 strength. It makes a reasonable amount of sense. But, a 5'0" elven woman with the same strength? She would need a build that would scare Governor Ahhhhhnold to death back in his peak days. Or worse, the 2'11" tall 34 lb halfling female with the 18 strength. Yea gads. She can drag how many times her own weight? Lift how many times her own weight above her head? What we're talking for her is comparitively Spideman level strength. Enough ranting. I've had the exact problem you describe with one of my early 1E characters who had a little encounter with an artifact called the Throne of the Gods. The guy had been the ultimate womanizer, had three wives scattered over the farther reaches of the central Flannes and had "girl friends" in about every country where he wasn't married by this point, well into a loooong campaign. His change into a big buff female Ranger from a big buff male Ranger wasn't as extreme as what you've got there, but was close enough. We simply went with it. Explaining it to his wives was a gas. "Honey. I'm home!" In as deep and gravely as voice as could be accomplished. Woman stepping into the room from the next room: "Amarel, what's wrong with your..." :mymy: :uh-huh: :OMG! "...voice ?" The other players: :bounce:      It's a role playing game. Role playing doesn't mean just accenting those parts you like and ignoring the ones you don't. It's best when the role is just played in total, the good and the not so wonderful equally! As for a fix... if the character is a devout of a certain god, that god or godess can be put on the spot as it were. The Temple of the God in question is a natural starting point. Let them do the necessary research, they have the resources. Of course, be prepared to pay for it BIG time. The least part of it will be becoming a Priest of the God.. maybe, probably, a LOT more. | SmiloDan10-14-04, 01:14 PM | I'm currently a Barbarian 3/Fighter 2. My current plan is to take another level of Barbarian and the Extra Rage feat, then go to cleric of Tempus (Strength Domain has Enlarge Person in 3.5...) :D Maybe take 3 levels of cleric, a couple more of fighter to even up Barbarian and Fighter, then keep on with cleric. Or go all Barbarian for DR and more rages and Improved Uncanny Dodge. My low Int will make taking levels in Rogue kind of useless for trapfinding and stuff, but it might be useful for Listen and Spot and Jump and Tumble. I'm also considered the Stealthy one of our party, so maybe Hide and Move Silently ranks? Or I could take Ranger levels...Favored Enemy would be nice...Yuan-ti are probably gonna be a big foe for us. And Track is nice. Maybe a Barbarian 4/Fighter4/Cleric3/Ranger3/Rogue3? Is that too crazy? Kind of unfocused, but not necessarily bad. We have a Wizard/Psion summoner-type, a Psychic Warrior, and an on again-off again Cleric. the DM gives out half-XP awards, but allows free multiclassing with no penalties, so that's cool. |
