I love watching reruns and the old Pretender show got me thinking about a character concept.

I'm hoping this description I give ot eh DM will give him a good idea of the character and give him a nice adversary to work with as well.

Meet Toban
Toban is a changeling. Toban doesn't know where he was born, he was taken by a group called Central at an early age. Toban showed remarkable intelligence (INT 18 at first level) and developed tremendous ability in mimicking others.

Central is a organization geared towards its own survival and gaining control over various political groups. They sell their services, (mainly other trained individuals like Toban,) to steal objects, spying and assasinations. The leader of Central is a man named Silver. It wasn't known until Toban was much older that Silver is actually a silver dragon with his own agenda. Central is located in Sharn but has agents on all of the major cities.

Toban was trained in developing his own inborn gifts and that of a bard with the intent that he would serve as a spy, infiltrator and support person in various missions. He became very good but was always kept in the dark as to the real intent of the missions. During one of the mission he happen to be held up in retreating and saw a second group of Central agents moving in. He was curious and so he followed them. The path that he and his team had created was used to kill an entire merchant family. Toban was greatly shaken by this and he started to question Central's appearingly benevolent nature.

It was about this time that training as a Pretender (Chameleon class) started. The five students that were chosen to become chameleons grew very close and Toban, (being the eldest) was their leader. But Toban was still dealing with the truth of Central and started questioning the leaders of the organization. He was able to infiltrate his own organization and discovered the truth about Silver. To silence Toban, Central had one of the other chameleons put to death under the guise of a "accident."

Toban and the remaining four pretenders started to plan an escape and six months ago they did. They were all on a mission in Sharn to infiltrate a mage tower and steal an artifact. They were able to get into the mage tower and rig a magical explosion that destroyed the entire tower. The five of the agreed to disperse and keep in contact.

Toban has since taken to travelling. He has a feeling of atonement and strives to help any one in need. Though he has cut ties to Central he still knows enough of the organization to steal money and resources. Silver and a few of the other leaders of the organization have since become aware of Toban's activities and are trying to track him down.

Note: The game I'm playing Toban in started at level 7. So I went Changeling Paragon/Bard/Chameleon 3/2/2. Stats are S10 D15 Co13 I20 W15 Ch15. He has the feats Able Learner, Combat Expertise, and Persuasive.

To be honest, I've been wanting to play a character loosely based on Jarod as well. Albeit, he'd be a warlock/chameleon trained in impersonation and infiltration to make a frighteningly effective assassin. Let's say very loosely based...

I don't think there's anyone who's seen the show that wouldn't agree the chameleon class would be extremely appropriate.

I've been wanting to play this very concept since Adventurer came out. Unfortuantly my group fell apart and has only recently came back together. When and if my Saintly VoP monk dies and if I don't take the risen martyr class, this concept is next in line.
