| Khadmus12-11-06, 06:05 PM | I am considering making a character with revolutionary thoughts about government (Communist?). The sort of person who would bide his time, waiting until he has enough power/money/respect to speak his views openly. Radical, but calm. Now, I'd like your thoughts on a few details about his backstory. 1)Profession 2)Race 3)Class |
| Ramrod_The_Wizard12-12-06, 11:12 PM | Profession) A schoolteacher or lawyer, those fit nicely Race) Idk, humans and half-elves would work Class) Bards would work nicely, inspiring people, rousing popular ideals, and sich But this is all dependant on what alignment he is and what his ideals are. If you are playing a man out to have a coup on the government for personal gains, and is a fascist, this wouldnt work. It would work for a man of the people, uber-democratic, workers leader. If he honestly belives in the ideals of peace, liberty, freedom, and equality, make him a CG psuedo-communist. The ideals can be the same, but without marx it could go by another name, but the ideals can be the same. |
| Khadmus12-13-06, 04:34 PM | Thanks, ramrod. I have my session tomorrow and I can get at least the basics done (thank god for PCgen). Well, anyway, what if the level of education is low? Lawyers most likely wouldn't exist, and schoolteachers would be rare (as well as students). I can't think of anything better than "peasant". |
| Ramrod_The_Wizard12-13-06, 06:48 PM | Well what are his stats? He could just be a farmer that was an activist, the most outspoken man in a village. Maybe a doctor. Most villages had doctors, a priest is also a good idea. If you are a cleric, diety dependant, it could work |
| Retromancer12-14-06, 03:41 AM | Right now I'm playing a CG "tear it down" anarchist character. Race Elf Class Ninja+ Dark Justice (homebrewed PrC) |
| Khandar12-16-06, 01:43 AM | A communist revolutionary who dual wields a light hammer and a sickle? |
| JulesCARV12-16-06, 02:12 AM | Gnome strikes me as being a good race, BTW. Gnomes seem to me to be types who look at aristocracy, hierarchy, royalty, and such with a skeptical eye. If you have Complete Psionic (which I don't), you might be an Ardent. |
| Anaxander12-22-06, 09:34 AM | profession: student, farmer, mine worker alignment: CG: anarchist type (revolutionary, all authority/power = evil, non-scientific understanding of how society works, romantic) NG: marxist type (revolutionary, only unequal power relations = evil, realist) LG: social-democrat type (reformist, unequal power relations must be lessened, utopist) class: any (really) race: any (really) but the character will have more difficulty in overthrowing races/societies who are lawfully inclined |
| Jaisin12-22-06, 03:40 PM | Profession - Any Class - Any base, likely a Bard who gets his nose into everything (Bardic Knack from PHB II). I've been turned on to bards in the very recent past. Also, moving into the Evangelist PrC from Complete Divine (doesn't require spells, cleric level, or anything but some skills and an alignment restriction of your choice). Those are powerful ways to 'spread the news'. Race - Half-Elf. Use the 1/2E Bardic sub level from Races of Destiny for the Soothing Voice class feature. Half-elves are rich in material to use for forming strong opinions, and have a lot of bred-in angst. Depending on how vigilante, or against what regime he stands against, or wishes to impose, the Scar Enforcer PrC is a flavorful choice as well. Either for him, or his Cohort. You are going to take Leadership at level 6, right? RIGHT?! Sorry, I've always wanted to do that. ;) Merry Christmas. |
| SageBahamut12-22-06, 11:55 PM | If you're going for a religious bent, you might consider the Evangelist prestige class. I could /easily/ see that being adapted to a political flavor rather than a divine one. Maybe have it advance Bard spellcasting instead of Divine? Sorry I'm AFB right now. |
| Qwicksilver12-23-06, 01:26 AM | Ooh maybe he can have been an aspiring artist or bard, but then have his hopes dashed by an all-gnome panel only to go to jail for counterrevolutionary activities. Afterwhich, he discovers that the climate is perfect in his home human country, having suffered a humiliating defeat by the elves, for revolution. He joins a small rag-tag political group and turns it into the dominant social movement, holding festivals, youth uprisings, and leads his country on a whirlwind tour to take back those lands the greedy Elves have stolen and lead the Human race on a wondrous third age which will last 1000 years. No.... no that'd never work. I'd say that he would probably be a bard, younger type, good speaker, idealist of sorts and a man who values travel. It is a bit unfair to recommend though, because my favorite player class is bard. However, I must add that I view bards as the kind of romantics types, the people who know what they believe in but perhaps have not the organization or the desire for power that a real leader needs. If you want your guy to actually have a desire to gain power and wield it, I'd say wizard or Sorcerer does well, but that is not to the exclusion of the bard. I see bards, however as more the types to enjoy life and it's comings and goings, rather than having a major urge to change it. |

You leave town, loot/excavate some ruins, raid a goblin fort and everything's cool. But when you get home, you're taxed into poverty, arested for drinking on tuesday, and hit on by the sheriff's ugly brother. Also, the crown prince spends most of his time making up stupid laws and wasting the royal seer's time by having him enforce them. Race? Anything can be a revolutionary, even an orc. Roll the die. Class is easy. You want something that realy benefits from a high CHA and has the diplomacy skill. Rogue, Paladin, Cleric and Bard are available to CORE players. Just a little help. |
