what level is your character?

Why dont you have a high Charisma? A high Charisma is Essential to a Paladin. A High Charisma helps your saves, helps your Lay on Hands, as well as some of your skills.

Just thought I would put in my .02 in

"Rick the Paladin"? Well, that's your first problem right there. It's not a huge change to make him, say, Sir Richard the Demonslayer or Riquel Pashar, Knight of the Crown.

Honestly, though, you're going to have to elaborate the concept a little more than "he's a knight". Give us something to work with here!

Of course, if you're really stuck, you can try out some of the random generators at http://seventhsanctum.com/ until your creative juices start running.

first of all, paladin is probably the most foolish class to play with no concept, due to the fact it is already the most role playing intensive class

That said, remember, paladins aren't just "average" fighters who employ thmselves in the town guard. They may very well be the priest at a local church (not a head priest mind you, unless its a church of heirounius, possibly St.Cuthbert), a high ranking official in the town guard, a vigilante, or perhaps a shining standard upon which the rest of town models upon. He could even be a mayor, though i doubt your DM would allow that (I would, as long as you resign when the time is right aka, adventure)

that also said, put a good score in Cha (14-18). Cha is probably a paladins most important ability. Wis is not as important, but helpful (10-12). Int is good since they have low amount if skill points, but some good skills. (10-12). Str is by far one of the most important stats. (14-18). Con is also very important. (13-16). Dex is the only paladin stat that he doesn't need. you can put your lowest score there and reasonably have a good character.

Also, take some time and invest in making a code for your paladin. there are many threads hanging about here with paladin codes in here - my personal favorite is the actual code of chivalry (google search the ten commandments of Chivalry)

finally, remember, a paladin is fully devoted to his cause, and should be roleplayed as such.
