| Ceoilte05-26-04, 09:48 PM | I need some help with a character concept, the chars already been made but I'm having problems making his backstory work. The character is a lawful evil male Moon elf warrior in the FR setting by the name of Eisendier or 'Eisen' to his few friends, he also carries the nickname 'deathwalker' among some people. He was a slave almost all his life, and only recently gained his freedom. He was born into slavery being the a child of elven slaves of the illithid. As little more than an infant an Illithid overseer while messing with his mind triggered an insane bestial rage in the him and he killed another slavechild. (Not sure about the race maybe elven) The Illithid thought they'd make use of this rage he carried around and trained him to be a gladiator instead of a brain massager. He was trained rigorously from a young age, and all he can recollect now from that period of his life are hours of training and murderous induced rage. at a later date a Drow trading party saw him and bought him. As an adult he first among the Illithid then later among the Drow he was forced to fight and kill in the gladiatorial pits against other slaves and those Drow males who wanted to fight in the pits by choice. so... Eisendier was born in the pits of the Underdark. A slave born from slaves of the Illithid, and forced to fight for their amusement. He was bought from the 'Mindflayers' buy a Caravan of Trading Drow who found it amusing to own one of their hated surface cousins and taken back to Menzoberranzan to fight in the Gladiatorial pits. He quickly learned that life was savage and unjust and the only way to survive in such a place was if he could become more Drow then the Drow. Over the course of 40 years Eisendier made a name for himself in both savagery and brutality in the pits, earning the nickname 'Deathwalker.' Eventually he was bought again by a Drow matron of House De'Tallieonn to serve as her bodyguard. House De'Talleionn was a very minor house in Menzoberranzan. They had limited resources and very few noble members. They army of slaves numbered less then 150. Most of these consisted of Orcs, goblins and a few Ogres and giants. The only thing the house had going for it was they were examplary divine magic channelers and produced more then their fair share of powerful Clerics and Blackguards. (and in one very rare case a Paladin.) To the amazement of all including himself the matron treated him with respect and courtesy. Thinking though he was male he had more then proved himself worthy of his position. Being physically a Blue or Moon elf Eisendier could move freely among the surfacers and served as both a scout and took part in many raids among the surface peoples. When House De'Tallieonn fell Eisendier left the Underdark not trusting the other houses enough to offer his services to them. And hating the clergy of Lloth that had brought about the destruction of his adopted home. When the house fell, Triest (The matron mother of his house.) sent Eisendier away telling him to safeguard the house's greatest treasures. Its bloodline and the survivors who carried it. Now my problems are why would a Drow, any drow from Menzo particularly a Drow matron respect him or admire him? sure he might be useful but at best he'd be a useful tool or at worse an inconvenience. And why would he care about this house who adopted him, or preserving their bloodline? Except for the fact that they let him move about abit instead of chained up in a cell waiting for his next fight in the pits? Being made to fight for drow in an arena or to fight for a Matron.... Either way its his life on the line for something he would more then likely hate and be more then happy to off himself if he could get the chance. I can only think he'd only do it because he'd have to. Survival and all that, or some form of geas which wouldn't work with the hating the llothites for killing off his matron and adopted house idea. any ideas? Thanks |

Maybe he got to like this and he kind of felt adopted by them? So, the house's bloodline would become his own. |

And she just used Eisen as a tool. he followed her becaus ethough she showed no real affection for him she did show him trust and some form of loyalty. The house and Matron's info is here, I also had to go into more details to support why the Matron did what she did. House De'Talleionn: House De'Tallieonn was a very minor house in Menzoberranzan. They had limited resources and very few noble members. Their army of slaves numbered less then 150. Most of these consisted of Orcs, goblins and a few Ogres and giants. The only thing that the house had going for it was that they were examplary divine magic channelers and produced more then their fair share of powerful Clerics and Blackguards. (and in one very rare case a Paladin.) The Matron Mother Triest De'Talleionn: Lawful Evil Triest is the Drow probably most to blame for the House's eventual destruction. Triest was never likely to become the House's next leader while growing up. She spent most of her time away from the core of Drow society and on the fringes of her House's politics. It was only the fortunate demise of her older sisters that led the way for her to take the place of Matron Mother. Simply by virtue of her being the only female child left to follow her mother as her successer. Triest, while a follower of Lloth, never really found she could give herself truely to Lloth's will. Not because of any conflict between her personal morals and her faith's convictions but simply because she just wasn't chaotic enough. Triest always sought to find an order to things and couldn't stomach the constant infighting between rival Drow Houses and internal house politics. This came to a head when she tried to impliment a new house rule of not doing anything to damage the house even if it brought you personal gain that would stop the constant backstabbing between her children and the vassals of House De'Talleionn. The main difference between her new rule and that of other Houses was that she actually mean't it. Anyone caught or even suspected of doing so would be dealt with harshly. Even if they were successful in their little schemes. When Lloth fell silent the Clergy of Loth moved against House De'Talleionn claiming they had brought about her disfavour. The clergy had conveniently forgot that this silence extended to all drow not just House De'Talleionn. But they succeeded in bring the House down. so, theres a few more loopholes I know but hopefully it works better now. ;) |
