| Old_School_Overlord04-25-07, 08:50 PM | I'm preping a back up character for if my rogue should bite it (all that scouting ahead of the party and messing with traps will do that....). My current character is a CN, vicious and mercenary sort. With a streak of kindness for the poor/oppressed and fiercely loyal to his extended "family". The general backstory is that his family was incredibly poor, and he never intends to be again. He does though remember what it was like to be poor though and comes from a big family where everyone had to help each other out. Here's the backstory for the next one: A young street waif who spent his formative years running with gangs is apprehended after robbing a priest. The priest arranged for the boy to be released to his custody rather than subject to prison, and he enrolls him into a monk order. After some years, the monk's influence has had a big effect on the boy (now LG) and he leaves the cloister seeking to help others. His fairly unique skills (Rogue/Monk) cause him to be recruited by the King's spy network who futher train him and make him part of their program of having a loyal observer in as many adventuring groups as possible*. Just having trouble deciding on the guys personality, attitudes, loyalties and so on... Thanks for all feedback *Did it ever seem strange that the authorities take no notice of small groups of individuals that can lay waste to entire towns? |

Though, even after all his monk training, he still has contempt for the rich. Not the good rich, the rich who sit on their arses all day and roll around in their GP as if the world was theirs for the taking. Attitude? Again, yours to decide, but I bet that cynicism comes with the job when you're a spy. Taking that into account, he probably isn't very trusting on the inside. But he is a spy, so what he'd probably do is get very cozy with the party. You know, he'll warm up to EVERYONE to get as much information as possible. Will he end up turning the charade into truth, or will he continue leave work at work? All is yours to decide. Those are some ideas to get you started, though. |

It should be a fairly small amount in comparison to the wages of adventuring anyway. Presumably you're working for a royalty who cares a great deal for his subjects so your loyalties shouldn't be in conflict between your family and the crown. On the other hand you should be more loyal to the king then the other adventurers and they shouldn't know it. Try playing him as mercenary but let your kindness for the poor and downtrodden slip from time to time. Let the other players goggle for a minute when you lose your composure for just a moment and pass off a small bag of silver to a poor women who is trying (and prob failing) to acquire her weeks groceries. Or when you get just a little too upset at a bum who is faking his injuries and his level of wealth (read con artist) to mooch off others who are in reality poorer then he. |
