| Fithero11-13-06, 01:10 PM | Does anyone have any sort of advice for role playing this sort of character? Story-wise, im thinking that at some point of another, he was a full human, but by some means or another he had *something* taken from him (his humanity, soul... etc) and he devolved into his now feral state. A good example for the sort of role playing opportunities id be looking for is Wolverine out of the xmen. Now im not wanting to actually play a Wolverine rip off (despite the fact that im gaining 2 claw attacks from the template) instead im looking for the same sort of questions to be raised. Should other humans consider him equal? Should he consider himself equal to other humans? Heck... is he still even human? Thats the sort of angle im looking for. As for class i have no idea. He doesnt have to be a savage, he can be a paladin or a knight if the background is convincing enough. Does anyone have any thoughts on this very basic concept? Peace |

| Skrimshaw11-13-06, 08:34 PM | Tarzan is (was) a Feral human |
| Fithero11-13-06, 11:01 PM | Hmm... fast healing, claw attacks, increased speed, natural armor... definitely not human. I recon he could still be recognisable as a human, i mean its fantasy... there are a hell of a lot more odder creatures out there. Don't use the Feral template, it's broken beyond belief I cleared it with my DM, so its all good. One word: Wolverine It seems that way at first glance ill admit, which is why i need some help. Tarzan is (was) a Feral human See? If Tarzan was feral, im pretty sure i can have a decent d&d character who is too. |
| BluEnigma11-14-06, 12:40 AM | Granted, my character's a 3 CHA Psywar chick, but here's a few of the ideas I use: 1. Little use in social situations- takes everything logically, with little knowledge of idioms or cultural norms. Or just have fun and twist everything others say. 2. Takes direction willingly, but not well. Follows directions, but unless it's something he/she's familiar with, there's a good chance that one of the finer points might elude them. Example: not sinking claws into innocent bystanders, etc. 3. Follows one of the other PCs around, distrusts the others. Very nice if said PC is a Druid. 4. Throw in some growling at opportune times in order to play up the feralness. |
| Fithero11-14-06, 07:27 AM | Instead of having him running around the wilds, like a feral creature would usually. Im thinking of having him living in the sewers and catacombs under some major city. Its sort of like the old tale of when you drop your crocodile down the toilet when it gets too big to keep as a pet. Once its down there... it starts to grow *real* big. Perhaps the boy was normal at one point, but when he moved down into the sewers (for one reason or another) he started to change. Without seeing the light of day for several years, he delved deeper and deeper until he passed into old sub-structures, then finally into natural caverns. After years down there, surviving on his own, somehow he came to return to the surface (either stumbled apon an exit, or was captured and taken there). Now, his former allies (family, mentor... etc) are trying to re-intergrate him into civil society (perhaps he was an aristocrat or some such thing). Any thoughts? Peace |
| Mr. VanderMeer11-14-06, 09:59 AM | One word: Wolverine I think it would be more like Wolverine's enemy. What's his name. Sabretooth, thats it. He is a true Feral Human. Make a nonevil version of him. Character class Ranger or Barbarian and you've got a cool Feral character. He'll look different so will draw quite some attention, but can still pass for a normal human if necessary. BTW, Tarzan is feral if you go by the real world definition, but not by the D&D template. BTW2, I agree that he Feral Human Template is broken. Make sure you don't become too unbalanced in comparison to other players. That can ruin the fun. If they also have some extra's I dont see a problem Have fun |
| Fithero11-15-06, 11:20 PM | Story wise, im going to have him living in the sewers in his younger years with his mother. She was killed by some sort of abberation that then ran off deeper into the sewer system and the character tracked the creature, planning to get revenge for his mothers death. Months past as he went deeper and deeper, finally comming into natural caverns below the sewers. He spends several years in the lightless caverns, fighting off all sorts of strange creatures. Eventually he killed another human, and several days later a group of humans found him and captured him the dragged him back to the surface. Thats pretty much the short-version of the back story. Mechanics wise, ill have him take ranger and barbarian classes until he can take the Cavelord prc from Underdark. As a note, im beginning to think that the feral template might *actually* be broken :P Because with one feat, i can have each of his claws doing 2d6.... nasty. Peace |
