I'm currently playing a Thri-Kreen Fighter/Ranger, and the DM has been dropping some serious hints that we're about to get into a RP-type area, instead of our usual tactical combat fare. As much as I hate to admit it, most of the time I play characters just for their power value, with very little work behind them. There have been a few noteable exceptions (Vashnak, the Half-Orc Wizard, and Tok, the Exalted Mind Flayer Illithid Slayer), and I want this to be one of them. Here's what I've got so far. Ta-kos is an adult male Thri-Kreen, 7 years of age. Ta-kos roughly translates to "retriever of the winds", after his devout belief in Shaundakul. He comes from a large pack of around 243 thri-kreen, and he had 26 littermates, of which 8 others are still alive. During his childhood, he aided in the slaying of a purple worm that was threatening the pack, and worked as a healer. As a young Kreen, he became seperated from the pack and was guided back by an avatar of Shaundakul - something he is sure happened, although his clutch-mates think he was simply delusional. Unusual for a Thri-kreen, he has distinct dark red markings on his body, birthmarks of a sort, and his chitin is extensively decorated with patterns similiar to dragonmarks, although these are purely ornamental. Having worked as a healer, Ta-kos is very interested in many alchemical compounds, and has trained a little in the creation of such compounds. He wears segmented light armor, and always wears armor with a high maximum dexterity bonus. Ta-kos prefers combat with racial weapons as opposed to claws and his bite (although he enjoys hunting with his natural weapons). He has a taste for elves, although he’s generally loathe to admit such in polite company. About the time that Ta-kos reached 6 years of age, he was captured by a militia in the area his pack was in at the time. Released shortly thereafter, he travels from city to city, learning all he can and never staying in the same place for a long time. He counts in base three, which can confuse people who associate with him. Any ideas? Suggestions? All help is greatly appreciated. |

Motivations? Philosophies? What are the stats you're planning to play? His class? Need help on personality and philosophies. His stats are VERY high, and as follows (After racial adjustments) Strength 17 (+3) Dexterity 22 (+6) Consitution 18 (+4) Intelligence 14 (+2) Wisdom 19 (+4) Charisma 10 (+0) Eventually, he's going to be a Fighter 2/Ranger 2/Master Thrower 3/Exotic Weapon Master 2/Psychic Warrior 2/Warmind 6 at 20th level. Specialized in his racial weapons. |

A rapidly matured seven year old with killing strength, but still a seven year old. I would recomend giving him a sort of "youthful exuberence," a pentiant for mischief, and some other child-like qualities. I think these qualities are especially nice for something and horrifyingly monstrous as a Thri-Kreen. I can see him sneaking up on the party wizard and hugging him with all for four insectoid arms, and hissing with delight "I love you! KHHHK!" Then skipping off merrily and killing a squirrel with his claws. |

I recommend you to dig out TSR's "Thri-Kreen of Athas" if you can find it. They are anything but childish. Thri-Kreens have short lifespans but after their 2 years when they stop changing carapaces(sp?) they fully mature and from then on they are ferocious hunters, scoping everything and everyone through a "worthy/not worthy" point of view. Thri-Kreen learn to be deadly from larvae. They believe the other races (they call them "soft skins") must always prove their worth since they can be always prey. I hate the description given in "Shining South", I believe they nerfed the Kreens pretty much. |
