| Tetujin07-07-07, 12:55 AM | I totally understand how to roleplay the 7-9 range: Being rude, smelly, etc. Similarly, I understand how to play the 4-6 range: Being completely incapable of understanding complex social systems, unable to relate to others, talking over people. But I recently rolled up something in the 1-3 range (Two, specifically). Half as much as a Dire Rat. Twice as much as a Skeleton. And I really am interested in trying to play it accurately. I generally understand having a charisma rather than not having one can be thought of as understanding that your environment is not the same as yourself. So my inclination would be to have a difficult time with the aforementioned task, refering to myself in the third person, not being able to use the words "Me", "You", "Them", "We". I also understand that I won't be in the adventuring party as much as I will be near them often. Anyone have any experience with this? Any other ideas? |
| warwinner07-07-07, 02:03 AM | Depends on your other scores [Intelligence, wisdom] what are they ? if those are high certain aspects of low charisma might be mitigated |
| Tetujin07-07-07, 02:36 AM | Actually I'm going to have an Int 14 and Wis 30. |
| warwinner07-07-07, 02:57 AM | PHB - A character with high Wisdom but low Charisma knows enough to speak carefully and may become an advisor (or “power behind the throne”) rather than a leader A character with low Charisma may be reserved, gruff, rude, fawning, or simply nondescript. So putting it together, we'd get someone very wise but who normal people think of as just another guy or have trouble remembering because he's not a stand-out He'll probably a hermit, very reserved and doesn't talk much.If he talks he talks very clearly with amazing insight but with little regard to what the listener may think of it Doesn't follow normal social customs and being that wise often questions their logic He'd probably be more of an advisor/support character rather than a leader or one who takes initiative in doing things What class is he ? |
| Tetujin07-07-07, 03:13 AM | I better give the full info then. He lives under a metropolis, ruling over his rat "subjects", avoid any contact with the above world. This is until the city has come under attack and he come to the surface to come to the aid of the city he's loved for so long. |
| warwinner07-07-07, 03:18 AM | Well, then he has no idea how to properly interact with people, he treats them as he would treat rats. He's dirty, unkempt and doesn't care about clothing properly or elegantly. He perceives what others feel quickly and empathises with them, but his behaviour puts civilised people off.Is very perceptive, but should express his feelings in a way that is annoying and uncouth |

That is getting to the stage where he's probably somewhat zombie-like, he grunts at anyone who he does not trust like a brother, he spits on people, he might urinate in the middle of the street or on the curtains of a noble's house, he is lazy and uninspiring, he has a sluched back.....there are many things, the more the better because someone with 2 Charisma would have a LOT of bad habits...plus he would be but ugly. PS: how did you pull a Wisdom score of 30? |
| Tetujin07-07-07, 04:53 AM | PS: how did you pull a Wisdom score of 30? I don't suppose you're familar with the Jermlaine from MMII? So they've got ugly totally covered. They also get +6 racial Wisdom, so: 18 + 3HD + 6 Item + 6 Racial = 33, in a couple levels I should be able to grab a big book and another two HD increases and bring it up to 40. |
| TheWhirlingDeathaxe07-08-07, 12:01 AM | I think a 2 charisma pretty much gives you liscense to act as inapproprately as you like. You would almost never recognize anyone elses opinions as valid unless they very specifically benefit you or match your goals. The character would probably be BRUTALLY honest about everything, as hes not likely to see the purpose for anything beyond the most basic deceptions. That would certainly not make him gullible or stupid, just very blunt. He would relate everything to his own experiences and outlook with no exceptions. Thats my take anyway. |
| TheAnthroDM07-08-07, 12:52 AM | Uhm..... "What the hell are you doing?" "We're trying to trick you into giving up the information and our rouge is poisoning your drink, the wizard is just trying to keep you distracted so that you don't notice. Oh.. was I not suppose to tell you that. Whoops, well I guess it's onto plan be, kill it with fire." that's about as cha dead as I can think. |
| Ensjak07-08-07, 05:19 PM | AnthroDM, I think that's more along the lines of brain dead than charisma dead. When you have a charisma as low as this character, it's probably gonna take some help from the DM and other players to roleplay it correctly. Your character is intelligent and extremely wise. So speaking like an idiot in both aspects of not speaking properly or giving away plans to enemies isn't roleplaying a low charisma at all. Rather than that, it's up to the DM and other players to realize that your character is not as charismatic as you the player. So when you say something, no matter how good an idea it might be, the other players and characters might or could often just ignore you on the basis that your character's personality lacks any force at all. No one (both PCs and NPCs ) really seems to care that your character is there during any kind of social situation. He's too soft spoken, shy, and timid to speak up even after his opinion has been asked. Except in the most dire of circumstances, he'll just nod and echo the general consensus or the opinion of the most charismatic party members or NPC. And forget about trying to convince anyone else of anything. His wisdom has to show itself through his own actions, not his advice to people because he's too scared to voice an opinion and have to defend it to others. |
| Fithero07-09-07, 02:03 AM | Have no shame and totally ignore sociall acceptable behaviour... -take a dump where ever/ when ever -eat with your hands in the tavern after taking said dump -grope women -make totally inappropriate jokes/comments at the wrong time ("the king has just died" "you know... i heard he once slept with a goat!") -death stare people for no reason That should get you down to a 3 or 4.... i dont even know how to get to a 2... that shouldnt even be allowed by the rules :P |

Being ugly is one thing, but being CHA 2 ugly? If it's that low, even other Jermlaine would think of this guy as ugly. Whenever he enters a room, all humans should have to make a Will save or be completely grossed out. Other than that, you can choose between two different approaches: 1: Ensjaks submission was great. People should look at you, think "Ouch, that's ugly!", and forget your presence. 2: If you don't like being ignored, you could go for hated. Openly insult people. Have a nasty habit, like picking your nose, and flicking the snot at people. Let him have Tourettes! Tell dirty "Yo momma"-jokes! If someone would ever compliment you, against all odds, reply with: "I :censored: know, it's because I'm better than you, :censored: loser!". Hope it helped. |
| Tetujin07-09-07, 08:30 PM | Just want to thank everybody for contributing, and I've got a lot of great ideas now! I'll be starting another thread soon about the same character's Urban Companion. |
| Alric07-10-07, 03:43 AM | Ok I have to say this. You need to stop using Charisma as a dump stat and put some points into it. Even just a couple. I don't think a charisma of 2 is even playable. Not only are you ugly and rude you also have no personality. You would probably follow people around almost as a slave as you are totally incapable of standing up for yourself. Your only one level above ooze and zombies. You hardly even count as a living being. People will not see you as a living being. Honestly the rats wouldn't even follow you with a score like that. Your character wouldn't come to the aid of the city either. He would probably rot in the sewers untill he died. He would probably have no will to live and probably wouldn't even bother to eat. Like I said, 2 charisma isn't even playable. |

I don't think he would go as far as saying whoops he'll probably keep rambeling on |
