| Solfair02-03-07, 06:53 PM | In a current ongoing campaign i had decided on playing a sort of neutral-good slightly naive Sorceror, who started out as an apprentice to a very kind old Wizard living in Cormyr. However there was another apprentice, whom I never actually met in-game (as he was on "mission" for our master when the adventure started.) This apprentice however later turned up dead, and for some time now i've experienced difficulties in Roleplaying a Naive-good character who've just had his best friend assasinated. (According to the GM the relationship was "close friends" at the very least.) I need help! I have great problems trying to roleplay this with my current character! More info about the situation: --- A resurrection attempt was made but ultimatley failed, also, we're currently plaing in a low magic setting, so higher level resurrections spells are unheard of. Eventually, (a couple of months in the campaign) My characters seemed to have come to terms with the death of his friend, however, then another PC (who had a near death experience) actually recieved a cryptic message from beyond the grave from the deceased apprentice. -- At one point i've asked the DM about this and it turns out he was slightly disapointed of "my lack of ambition" for this event. Still whenever I try to ask for more personal information on this character and "our" relation he says "It's up to you" Any advice on how to "handle" this situation in a roleplaying matter without going completley Emo, and still not dissapoint my GM? |

Insist on finding out more regarding this cryptic message; perhaps in it lies hope for saving your friend? If not, you'll want to at least know who did it, and probably deliver justice--either by having the culprit locked away if you're still good, or by killing him yourself if you've become jaded. Or for a bit of both, you could be ready to lock him away, but your emotions make your magic go wild and you incinerate him without meaning to (fits perfectly for a Sorcerer). Your character might then be horrified. You could even go slightly insane if you want, or if that's too dark for your tastes, you could simply be trying to atone for that act as you continue your adventuring career (in a moral sense, not the spell). The entire time you're chasing the killer, you could stick with a sort of "righteous resolve" paladin attitude towards the villain. It's hardly emo, and definitely justified. My thoughts, at any rate. |
