| Luis_Dragunov03-05-08, 04:38 PM | In an upcomming game, set in Eberron, I have ended being scheduled to play a Young Red dragon (around 20 years of age or so) who, due to an epic spell cast by someone (plot details that the DM guards very well) has spent his whole life in human form, unaware of his draconic nature. Since this is Eberron, I'm aiming for CG. He's been raised by humans but he still has the mind and nature of a dragon. So, what I wante dto know from you fellows is: a) tips to roleplaying a dragon with such an exceptional upbringing (and dragons in general) and b) how would you roleplay him, personally? Any and all input is highly appreciated! |
| I_roll_ones03-05-08, 04:50 PM | a) People know he is special. He is stronger, wiser, smarter, and perhaps even faster then the other children. They may not think he is a dragon, but may have high expectations of him. Churches would be interested in him. b) Not familiar with Eberron, but if dragons love wealth, then the character would have an interest in it. If he was raised to be good and is good, he might instead pick up the tricks of the trade for mercantile actives. He would share his wealth, but the game to achieve it would fascinate him. If a melee, a Warblade with a shrewd intellect might work. Or if a caster, then a Beguiler, with the ability to manipulate others, sometimes persauding an evil or greedy rich noble to part with their wealth. Or simply taking it, if the need is great enough. |
| Luis_Dragunov03-05-08, 05:04 PM | The epic spell is something akin to a forced Polymorph effect so, barring exceptional mental abilities and having HP based off of his original Con score, he is for all effect human... except for the absence of the extra feat and skill point. Just a little tidbit of info. Thanks for helping, I Roll Ones! |
| I_roll_ones03-05-08, 05:07 PM | Then ignore the stronger business. He might have been a strapping, hardy young lad, who never got sick, with a good amount of endurance when doing farm work. How does the polymorph affect him mentally? If he carries over no memories or faint whispers from his past...He might just act like a normal human, |
| Luis_Dragunov03-05-08, 05:35 PM | The epic spell is as follows: Prison of Flesh Transmutation Spellcraft DC: 20 Components: V, M, Ritual Casting Time: 10 minutes Range: 300ft Target: One creature or inanimate, nonmagical object. Duration: Permanent Saving Throw: Will negates (DC 20+Mod+10) Spell Resistance: Yes To Develop: 18,000gp, 1 day, 720XP. Seed: transform (DC 21), compel (DC 19), dispel (DC19). Factor: permament (x5 DC), Increase DC by 10 (+20 DC). Mitigating Factors: Increase Casting Time by 10 minutes (-20 DC), five additional casters contributing 6th-level spell slots (-55 DC). When cast, this ritualistic spell traps its target in a completely new shape and modifies its memory into anything the caster desires, from re-writing its memories into an entirely new personality to merely changing a few details. The target’s type and subtype do not change and if slain, the target returns to its original form. The target retains its mental ability scores, level, class, hit points (regardless of any change to its Constitution score), base attack bonus, base saves, extraordinary abilities, spells, spell-like abilities, but not supernatural abilities. At the caster’s pleasure, the target’s alignment and overall personality can be changed. Physical abilities, which include natural size and Strength, Dexterity and Constitution scores, as well as natural armor, natural weapons, and other gross physical qualities like the presence or absence of wings, number of extremities, are all acquired by the target. Even when transformed into a wholly different creature, the target ages at normal speed for its original race since its type and subtype do not change. Although permanent, this epic spell is designed to end itself when certain conditions are met. A small, shimmering rune akin in design to a dragonmark is imprinted upon the target’s new body. A successful Knowledge (Arcane) check (DC 20+ Caster’s INT modifier) reveals the command word that immediately undoes the spell, restoring the target to its previous shape and mind. No new knowledge or memories are lost, however. The target cannot have more Hit Dice than the caster has. Basically, he doesn't remember anything about being a dragon. He has lived all his life thusfar as a human. |
| I_roll_ones03-05-08, 05:52 PM | Misread something. But he is a human who is wildly intelligent, charismatic and wise. Am I correct in assuming that the character will always assume he is a human? |
| Luis_Dragunov03-05-08, 06:20 PM | Yeah, until he gets the seal undone (probably by accident). I'm not going to metagame and just go out of my way to have the mysterious dragonmark-like seal undone. He'll be curious about it but the stories about Aberrant Dragonmarks aren't a terribly guarded secret so he'll probably be assuming that's what he has and that's where his sorcerous power comes from (not yet sure what class he'll be but he casts spells as at least a 1st level sorcerer anyway). |
