Character Concept:
Rupert Hitchins was an up-and coming barrister / lawyer in Waterdeep (FR comapaign setting) who got blindsided in the most important case of his career (being held in contempt by a paid-off judge, and being tossed into a cell until the trial was completed), resulting in the death of his client, a man he was sure was innocent. At which point Rupert snapped. When he was released from his cell, he wandered the streets as if in a daze, eventually taking up residence in a large park. He'd been there for years, holding court with his trained squirrels, before an old friend came to Waterdeep to pay him a visit, and found him in this sad state. The friend promised adventure, and a chance to redeem his miserable life. It was enough to draw Rupert from the Park, though he remains a bit... quirky, and is likely to be carrying a squirrel... or two... under his robes at all times.

Mechanically:
Rupert is a level 1 Druid, with 4 ranks of Profession: Barrister under his belt.

Str 8
Dex 12
Con 10
Int 14
Wis 18
Cha 10

The playgroup wants to be mechanically sound, so I imagine making him a Ghostwise halfling to allow for communication while wild-shaped.

Need help with:
What I'm looking for is a good early-life reason as to why a Ghostwise halfling could have found himself raised in Waterdeep, and why he chose to become a lawyer.

Furthermore, mideival law / court terms would be nice to learn, if you happen to know any.

I'm..Sorry, but legal stuff I am rather clueless in so I will be of little help there. Ah...Reasons for wanting to be a lawyer...Perhaps he simply wanted to prove that he could. Since Barbarian is their favored class, I can see him being quite bad at it, but struggling nonetheless to prove the world wrong, and after a string of constant failure, this being the final straw that causes him to snap. :P

...But then I have a penchant for playing characters with mental problems lol.

Perhaps he lost a family member or a friend to a mistrial...Humans brushing halfling interests aside because they are short and therefore irrelevant? Perhaps an grandfather lost land thats been in the family for generations to a logging company; your father tries to do things the "modern way," tells everyone to put down their slings and blowguns and appeals to the courts of nearby WaterDeep. He gets shut down without them even taking them seriously and in putting aside traditional methods dishonors himself greatly in doing so. The tribe votes for a new chief; so his son is attempting to right the wrong and regain his family's honor. You're not a very good warrior; quite the bookish type, in fact, so you decide you'll beat the humans at their own game. You "school up," struggle your way through school despite every attemt to crush you, and even after becoming a full-fledged lawyer, case after case is thrown out the window despite your flawless "lawyering" (find a better word; I don't do legal crap!) and now you've given up. Your family is dishonored and you've wasted all those years...At least the SQUIRRELS UNDERSTAND ME...

That's just a start. If you liked what I typed...Feel free to maybe do me a favor and reply in kind to my post? I'm also playing in a FR campaign with a hobo-psionicist. Figure that one out

By the way...I don't know where your character is from, but your name is not very barbarian-ish...Perhaps he changed his name to try and fit in...But his original name? Try Rugbar Hatch Eagletalon :D
