| Dauntless05-27-04, 12:11 AM | In an upcoming new campaign, our group will be playing a "less than ethical" merchant crew, being shared owners of a small saily vessel. We plan on standard trading and cargo missions, but we will also be partaking in smuggling and any other source of income which we can find. The group will primarily be neutral or evil, however not in the "backstab everyone / psychopathic murderer" style. More of the "out to make a profit, to heck with morals" evil. That being said, the game will likely be combat light, skill intensive. Combat will still come up now and then (in the form of running from other pirates, dealing with navies, thugs, organized crime trying to extort "fees", etc). I decided to try something new and run a psion. I'm running a kinetecist in another campaign, but decided to try the classic telepath for this one. I even decided to take it a step farther when I came across the Thrallherd prestige class. In the first 9 levels, I trade one manifester level for an infinitely replenishable source of fanatically loyal followers. Perfect! A crew I can trust completely, and don't have to pay! And I get a loyal bodyguard out of the deal! Unfortunately I do see some challenges up ahead. When friends and loved ones start to wonder why their companions decide to volunteer to work as the crew on a passing merchant ship, some people may get suspicious, but hopefully that won't be a problem too often. Then you add in pirates, navies, authorities, organized crime, other merchants who want you to fail, and the hazards of ocean travel itself, it can become a real challenge. Wish me and my unwilling crew luck! |
