This is the background I have in mind for an Elan Ardent with the primary mantles of 'life' and 'pain and suffering'. Her primary function in the party would be a psionic healer - of sorts. Focusing on the two aspects of empathic transfer and share pain, take the damage from her party members onto herself and pass it on to their foes but not really creating any additional damage herself.

Comments are very welcome.

It is worth mentioning the campaign setting where this character would come into play. It's a DM's homebrew, which spans a galaxy-wide empire - so I've got pretty much free play on where she's from and the world on which she originates. It all fits in since this one would be an 'outworlder' in regards to the world in which the campaign is centered upon.

I'd be the last to claim that newly mades aren't sometimes a bit silly, it's a fantastic time those first years when you're just discovering yourself as a different being after you've shed your humanity and evolve. It goes to your head almost like being a child again the world is open with possibilities, nothing is beyond your reach. For me, one of the way it showed was this new name I took for myself. Serenity, I guess, in a way that was what I strived for back then. What I thought being remade as an Elan would buy me...

Annie-May
That was her human name, Annie-May Cordon. Born on a little backwater world in the border lands between Bronze and Red legion territory, light-years from Draconis prime or the circle hub. In the summer of Annie-May's tenth year rebellion broke out on her homeworld. A purely internal affair, the struggle between the fundamentally religious rebels and the secular central government went on for years before the legions got involved and squashed the rebellion. This little backwater world just weren't important enough to bother with, until it started to look like the rebels might win and possibly spread.

From early on in this struggle, the Cordon family was involved. Both her parents fought on the side of the rebels. When the open fighting started the family went underground. In a way this was one of the happiest times in young Annie-May's life. Moving to an underground compound with so many other families. There was never any lack of friends to play with and she really didn't have any clue of what went on up on the surface.

By the time she was twelve Annie-May had started to manifest wild psionic powers, so she too joined in the fight. She may not have understood much of what was going on, or why they fought. But fighting was what the religious leaders told her she must do, so fight she did. They spoke for
God, so it must be the right thing to do.

That first mission to the surface marked the abrupt end of her childhood.

When the Bronze legion finally took action and moved in. Annie-May got captured with most of her squad. It was probably her youth that saved her. What made it worth to send her to deprogramming rather than the rather harsher punishments that the empire impose on those that turn against it. What became of the rest of her family, or friends, she never did find out and in many ways, after deprogramming didn't really care apart from a detached hope that they were still alive and had found reason - like she herself had. Not still living under the same delusions that had turned her into a soldier against the empire. These people that once were her family had become strangers.

Mrs. Stanic
Emerging from deprogramming an emancipated fourteen year old 'child' of the empire, Annie-May did what she could to secure her future.
She got married. Hamid Stanic was nine years her senior, but he was kind, funny and had a secure job as a surgeon at a spellware clinic. Love wasn't really an issue, she could fake it well enough and maybe with time she could learn. The religion that made her a soldier in a previous life, that was how she viewed it after the deprogramming, had been replaced with practicality and reason. Hamid could provide her with security and with time - a new family.
That didn't take very long, at fifteen Mrs. Stanic gave birth to their first child. A big bouncy baby boy, too big perhaps. The labour wasn't an easy, nor a quick one. But to mrs. Stanic it brought an ephifany.
Life and pain is inseperable, pain is the bringer of life.
Over the next few years they had three more children in rapid sucession. Between being a mother, and the best housewife she could, mrs Stanic tried to study and control the only talent she had - her wild psionic manifestations. Especially focusing on controlling these powers, all she ever had used them for was destruction, and with young children in her care that could be dangerous. There were a few near misses and accidents during these years where she had wild manifistations of power. In the end it became impossible to keep it hidden from her husband any longer. It was simply just a matter of time before something catastrophic would happen.

It was Hamid that first came with the suggestion to seek out the Elans. I don't think he ever expected what would come from it.
I was twentyfour when I emerged newly made leaving humanity behind. I couldn't go back, of course. That was my price to pay, there's always a price...

End part one.
