Okay...so my DM is running this long campaign using the Gestalt system. We have covered 2 full story archs so far. And just reached level 12 (we started at 10) and right now I am really happy with my character, though he is a handful with so many options to chose from. What our DM has asked us for now is some background history for our guys to weave into the game. Reason being is this, powerful beings for "good" enlisted us to help them...in order to help us be victorious they merged two seperate people into one, hence the Gestalt. Now...I need to figure out some story for this guy. Here is his build so far.

Illumian - Power Sigil that adds a bonus to my Dex and Wis skill checks

Important Feats: Able Learner (to cover any weaknesses the party had for skills) and Mage Slayer

Side 1: Rogue 10/Swordsage 2
so +5d6 SA
Evasion
Improved Uncanny Dodge (from other half)
Really good skill modifiers on many skills
and the Rogue special ability to take 10 on certain skills even when normally that wouldn't be allowed (I made him as the go to guy cause he is consistent, he may not always be the highest, but he will always get the same results)
Manuevers and Stances deal mostly with the Shadow and Setting Sun schools

Side 2: Warblade 5/Shadow Sentinel 6/Shadow Smith 1
Full BAB
Good Reflex Save with Warblade ability to add Int mod
Ability to burn Shadow Points to modify my weapon
Starting to learn to shape shadow in multiple ways

Now, campaign background. There are not "Planes" in this world, so the Shadow we are fighting are not the typical from another Plane type deal.

We are fighting the Shadow because they are going around to these "Key Cities" which act as gateways for a very destructive force that they want to unleash to create desolation all over the world. We have now stopped them twice in two different cities, and recovered 2 artifacts from them.

Most of the main baddies we fight are either true Shadow creatures or "infected" by them. My character is interesting in this setting because I use Shadow to fight Shadow...I guess you kind of think of it like Jedi and Sith...both use the Force, but for different reasons.

If anyone has suggestions about what I can use for background information for my characters it would be appreciated.

Well... I guess I could come up whit some ideas, but first some small questions:
Age?
Appearance?
Name?
Did he/they grow up in a city, on a farm, or out in the wilderness?
Does any of the sides have any known relatives, friends, or enemies?
Did the two guys know each other before they were merged?

That should give us something to work from.

Actually, that is the kind of stuff I need to think up...what happened to him.

As for looks...Illumian, so basically humanoid, with floating glyphs above his head.

Age: 26

Name: Never actually thought of one...hmm...Dravid Pegason.

Known enemies and friends...I would say no...since it seems these "powers for good" took us from somewhere else.

Also, I don't think these two halves would have known each other before hand.

one more question:
Does he still have two separated minds, or are those merged too?

The DM hasn't had us play like that yet...for the first two arch's we have been pretty confused about what happened...learning about new abilities...stuff like that. But with this latest "artifact" our memories are starting to come back...so it is entirely possible that we may begin to hear things in our heads.

OK, that means two separate backgrounds... None of which take place in the world you are playing in, right? This is going to be interesting...

Now, lets try another point of view... How have you been playing this guy so far? Is he aggresive, polite, paranoid...?

His past(s) will most likely have shape his personalitie(s), so that would be helpful...

The way I have been playing him as kind of as a law enforcement officer, if you read the Shadow Sentinel fluff text that is kind of what they are. They fight the Shadow. His alignment is LN...basically, he will do what it takes to defeat the Shadow, as long as it doesn't involve anything more than "bending" of the rules...he won't break them.

OK, good. Now we have something to work whit. But right now I'm kind of tired, and can't get my ideas together... (I'm in Sweden, my watch shows ten past eleven!) So I'll think about this and hopefully posting something tomorrow, OK?

OK, how about this?

Side 2: He was always fascinated by the shadow, and sought its power, 'cause you know, shadow is cool. Then one day, one of his little shadow experiments went out of hand, and he accidentally killed his sister. After this he swore to never stop training to achieve full control of the shadows, because he did not want anything like that to happen ever again. Still he knows he can never stop using the shadow, he can only make sure he uses it right. He has also made it his personal quest to find and stop those who are not worthy of the shadow, since he knows just how dangerous it is.

I still haven't come up whit anything good for the rogue though, but when I do, I'll post again.
