| Cam S.12-13-03, 12:56 AM | I was wondering (this is mainly for all the Anime fans out there who are up for a challenge) How exactly would one go about making a Shinji Ikari (Evangelion) Clone? Now, for the poor bugger's safety, forget the Eva, and give him some fighting ability reflecting the EVA (skill with knives, polearms, and crossbows) I'd say a Fighter/Sohei with average strength, high Dex (dodging, running away), average Con, average Int, moderately good Wisdom (He's a clever one, when he wants to be) extremely low Charisma (Anyone who's seen the series will agree). Why Sohei? Two things: Frenzy and Lawful Allignment (I think his more spineless attitude fits with a lawful allignment, not because lawful is for the spineless, but because he doesn't really go his own way.) So...any feats (exalted, otherwise), etc? Of course, I know my GM's reaction to this idea...it'll be something along the lines of: :twitch: |
| TheMightyMcClaw12-15-03, 05:14 PM | The problem with Shinji being a sohei is that Shinji Ikari is not, at his heart, a warrior. He is extremely passive; his primary motivation for being in NERV is to try and gain his father's aproval. He isn't brave, and he knows it; thus the "I mustn't run away, I mustn't run away....." Honestly, if you were trying to turn him into a D&D character (which I will later emplore you not to do), at least go with a mage. The passive, apologetic, angsty persona is lot more fitting to a wizard or sorcerer. Also, for god's sake, please don't. There's something about making an Evangelion D&D character as blasphemous. The heart of the show was the depth to which characters were developed... not to the height they were empowered. EVA simply shouldn't be brought down to that level..... |
| Cam S.12-15-03, 05:27 PM | I was kind of unclear on the first post--I mean mainly for a character that strongly resembled Shinji. I agree with you that trying to port EVA into D&D would simply be wrong. But the thing is, if I'd wanted to make a character that reaches the heights of power, I would've designed one based on Kenshin, Trigun, or DBZ (god forbid). I'm trying to make one that would be a Roleplaying Challenge, and Shinji sprang to mind, for the very reasons you quoted as making it dificult. That's the reason I put it on the "Character Development" board, not the "Character Optimization" board. |
| Kenkai12-16-03, 08:30 PM | hey dragonballz would be a fun design, but you'd have to make feats that focus on dbz style combat. "as the sorceror charges his fireball you stand there amazed at the colors until all of a sudden...all of a sudden...um wait a few rounds...all of a sudden...*10 rounds later* he blasts you into oblivion wondering why every opponent he fights stands there and lets him use his strongest move that just happens to take two days to prepare" something along those lines, would make for very comical gaming, albeit impractical :smirk: would you believe i haven't seen Evangelion? eh i really gotta buy the box set  |
| jonstryder12-18-03, 03:10 AM | For Evangelion & anime I suggest checking out BESM d20. Its got all the rules you'll need for somthing like Evangelion. And for Mecha there is d20 Mecha a companion for BESM d20, or can be used on its own. Doing dragon ball to d20 isn't easy, I've got 4 d20 versions so I can attest to that. There is an actual Dragon Ball Z game produced by R.Talsorian games and it does a good job of capturing the anime. |
| Searing Light12-21-03, 04:43 PM | Don't try to press a non-fighting character into combat-based rules of the D&D-system. Why don't you make up a character on your own? Playing a character that is already defined, especially if it's a character as sensitive as Shinji, can just go wrong. |
