| Soul_Drinker09-03-05, 03:37 PM | Ok so, my job is boring. I do customer support on the phone. Some times during the day, I find I have some time for my own entertainment, to forget how much I hate what I do. Yesterday, one of my co-workers told me to wright her a story. Apperently she was bored too. So here it is, I couldent find any other fourm to post in, so please forgive me if this seems out of place. Oh yeah, the reason I'm posting this, is I seriously made this up on the fly, and have NO idea where its going. Id like some thoughts, comments, shoot, ideas here people. Like I said, I dont know where this is going, wana help? Dont get on my case about form or spelling, I dont really care. Also I just noticed I made a potientially insulting remark regarding Americans. Please, if your American, I mean no dissrespect. This is writen from the persepctive of a discruntled surviving Canadian who was relying on y'all to save us. December 12 2078 To whom ever reads this, my name is Gaberial. I don’t have much time, because they are coming. I can hear them. Whos them? The walking dead. You may scoff. I don’t care. The news said it was some form of mutated cancer cell that made the basic motor functions keep functioning even after all brain activity ceased. Kinda like a living coma. The government wasn’t prepared. They came from the morgues, hospitals, and after the first outbreak, it got worse. The people from the hospitals got infected, then the people in the streets. It was wide spread panic. Riots. Looting. I remember it well. I had to kill my own mother after she got infected. I still have nightmares about that day. The only way to destroy them is to sever the head or spinal column. I did her in with a shovel. ****, they are at the door…….. December 16 2078 Its been a long 4 days. I had holed myself up in an abandoned Walmart. That place is a ****ing gold mine for supplys. Too bad it had all ready been looted. All I managed to scavange was some old Mcdonalds hamburger. The previous residents had set up a makeshift generator, so at least I wont get sick from it. Much. I managed to find some old hunting supplys, but little good a bow is gonna do against something that keeps coming from anything less then a severd head? That’s where the sporting goods came into play. I never thought golf could be so much fun. I bet your wondering what happened last time I was wrighting? They broke thought he barrier near the entrance. There was a hole in the door I didn’t notice. Just when you think your safe.. Anyways. I managed to run through the mall out a backdoor. Surprise surprise they were there too. No worries. That’s why I made a stop at sport chek. God bless the man who invented roller skates. Im trying to make my way to the Arts and entertainment building of town. Its high. Id like to see those ****ers climb 40 flights of stairs. I haven’t seen anyone alive in days. Im stopped at an abondonded gas station bathroom right now, and cant stay much longer. Theres alwase more waiting. Please god, if you are there, forgive me for my sins as I wil surely soon be going to hell. Gabe sat on the gas station john contemplating the days most recent events. How far he had come. How long has it been since he got to sit and watch TV? Oh God..Tv. How I miss Tv. And Sleeping in a nice warm bed. For the past few days, I have has traveled about 10 miles of city streets to got to where? A 7-11 bathroom. Jesus. Civillilizaton at its best my ass. Wheres the all mighty U S of A now you basterds? Wait….what was that noise? Gabe slowly made his way to the door, Nine Iron in hand, and listened…shuffling. Shuffling could only mean one thing... Gtitting his teeth, and waiting by the door for JUST the right moment to burst through… “Stay back you mother****ers!” came the scream from byond the door. “The hell..” Thought Gabe, “I haven’t seen or heard anyone elce but myself for weeks!” Poking his head out the door set into motion a few things, 1) He see’s this woman fighting for her life aginnst this horde of infected, with a baseball bat no less. 2) His hiding place is no more then a ceramic coffin as he draws the attention of roughly half the horde to his location “Awww ****…this is exactly what I DON’T need.” Gabe griped. “OH MY GOD ANOTHER LIVING PERSON! HELP ME! I KNOW WHERE WE CAN GET SUPPLYS!” screams the unknown woman. Gabe smiles as he walks towards the dilapidated corpses of the people he used to share his daily life with.. This should be interesting. Personal note: This is writen from the womans POV. How did it end up like this? I had it good up until now…even concidering the fact that Ive had to murder my family and friends, and those around me to simply survive, I had it good. Managed to secure my self a spot on this mobile fortress called The Duke. It was this renoed out school bus these die hard survivalists managed to cook up in the early days of the horror. That’s what everybody calls the time between now and then. The horror. How it felt when you had to kill those you would kill for, and mutilate them so they wouldent kill you instead. I can still see the look in my daughters eyes as I had to bury her alive…she was dead anyways. Then it was all a matter of looking out for number one. I managed to camp out on city limits for a few weeks after the horror before the raiders came. You know the type. Kinds that thrive on Anarchey. I was gathering wood. Basterds probably saw my fire. They came to steal my gear. I wasn’t left with many options, let them steal my gear and die out here, or take my chances and take as many of them with me as possible. I took the last option. I managed to down two with a branch I had, before they tackled me to the ground. That’s when the Duke rolled up behind them. I later found out they had tracked these basterds down to extract some revenge redneck style on those that wronged them and theirs. It was nasty. From then on I had a free ride, provided I assited them with their ‘needs’. Hey, don’t judge me. I did what I had to do to survive. They got theirs in the end, anyways. But that was then, this is now. And right now, Im about to be eatin alive by ****ing infected… Thats all she wrote. So heres what Id like to know, 1) What do you think Gabe did before the Horror? 2) Whats the name of my woman? 3) What happend to the rednecks in the bus? 4) Where would you go at this point? Agian, helpfull criticism only please. |
| Fithero09-03-05, 08:55 PM | First of all, its an awsome story, im writing a zombie story at the moment too (just over 21'000 words). But as awsome as it is, i dont think it belongs in this forum, this is a d&d character forum, but hey, who am i to complain. As for the name of the female character...doesnt really matter. I hate in stories how characters have always got these wicked and unique sounding names....its just stupid, what ever happenend to bob and jane? As for the red necks in the buss, the chick had to of killed them, no matter what. They used her for their filty needs so while they slept she snuck outside, stuck an oiled rag in the fuel tank and blew them all to hell. As for where it could go from here on out man, its your choice, those two could fall in love and they survive together out in the bush. Or they could get killed then and there, thats the thing, your story, your choice. Later |
| Illius_the_Warrior_Pope09-03-05, 10:23 PM | Hey, I think this is friggin' awesome! Concering your questions: 1) What do you think Gabe did before the Horror? How about a really strange job, like a Librarian or Accountant? 2) Whats the name of my woman? Uh...how does Serena sound? 3) What happend to the rednecks in the bus? Death by chainsaw! 4) Where would you go at this point? Hmmm...probably explain hte meeting between the mystery woman and Gabe, have em run into a small enclave that effectivly is one of the last bastions of civilization and descover that not all of the "infected" were turned into mindless zombies: some became groteaque monsters from beyond the realms of sanity while others developed unusual mental powers...and went completly insane. Meybe you could have a few cults dedicated to the various species of infected as well. Well, that's my :twocents: Can't wait for the next part. Are you gonna write any other stories? I'm a fan of occult action thrillers myself. Btw, this story might be more suited on the d20 Modern Fiction Forums. I, the W.P. |
| Soul_Drinker09-03-05, 10:45 PM | Yeah, I was thinking she killed the rednecks herself, thats where the supplys are. The Duke. The woman was making a trip to the gas station to refill some gas cans she brought for the bus...yeah that works nicely. Gabe was at the gas station looking for pick me ups, candy bars, bottled water, packaged food. Her name, I was thinking Muryyiah. Everone calls her Murr. Or something. Gabe, what did he do? I was thinking something a little obscure, but handy to have, a Mantinance worker at a 3 star resort that has its own workshop. He was responisble to make sure the rooms all had working plumbing, wiring, that sort of thing. So he would know some handy survival skills. Murr? I could see her as a woman who fought tooth and nail for everything she had, would have died for her daughter, and had to see it all crumbling down before her. A lifes work, shatterd in mear weeks. But she didnt get to where she was in her previous occupation, I think Game design, by being meek and mild. No, she had to prove she was psycially and mentally capeable of playing everyone of the top managements games. Litterally and figureatively. She has the ambition and drive, but a real lack of real world knowledge. |
| Illius_the_Warrior_Pope09-03-05, 11:02 PM | Cool. What do you think of my suggestions? |
| Soul_Drinker09-04-05, 12:25 AM | Actually, those ideas of mine were inspired by yours. I liked the obscure idea for Gabe. Nothing too Cliche like Fireman or Police officer. This way he knows how to use some basic tools, and can jury rig something in a hurry somewhat decently. I know how she kills them. I just dont want to give away all of my story line, I DO intend to continue it. But there wont be another installation for a few days. As I said before, Im doing this for fun at work and its mostly on the fly. Im just taking a bit more personall intrest in this, cause I'll be damned if this isnt fun. I chose Murryiah because Ive only ever met two in my life, and lack of a better name. As for cults? I was pictureing this maybe a year or so after the horror. Cults are few and understaffed, they want to keep underground for now. Bastion of humanity.. Ever see The Postman? With Cosnter? I was kinda thinking of small fortified communitys. Maybe 50 or less. People who managed to secure some area and maintian it from the dead. I find it hard to belive SOME people dont have a decent protected area with some small form of eco system. We adapt when we need to. Psionics? Humm. That could be interesting. Psionic Zombies? Dear god that could be deadly. Maybe something unusuall..what if the mind powers the zombies have, are only minor illusions? Like the ability to cloud peoples minds to make them think, the zombies arnt really dead? That way, they get closer thinking its human, but by the time they realize its a corpse it's too late? Yeah I found that fiction board after I posted. I kinda figured this fell under character development hence...lol |
| Fithero09-04-05, 12:39 AM | The reason zombies are around in my story is because its actually the end of the world, the dead are rising, the moon is blood red....general armageddon stuff. Ive changed mine though, removing the head does nothing to them, if you blow the head off the body still comes at you. Also there are skeletons running around aswell. Im starting to become less sure of these ideas though and i might go back and change them. One idea i am set on though is that you dont become a zombie when they bite you.... it just hurts like a *****. You only become a zombie when you die, so if the bite kills you then you become one, but if they just nip your forearm or bite off your thumb your fine....sorta. As an odd decision, i was going to make my character become sort of half alive/half dead. He would be dead, but he remained sentinent... he has the fortitude of the walking dead and the smarts of the living, pretty cool. Oh, and he would still fight for the humans. Any comments? Later |

I kinda figured this fell under character development hence...lol I did indeed see the Postman, though I was not thinking about it when i suggested the Last Bastions of humanity idea (I'm not THAT sadistic :P ) To tell the truth, I was thinking of your classic post Apochalyptic settlements. Cults staying underground at this point makes sense. Psychic zombies...now zombies with human intelligence are scary enough but zombies that can warp your mind to their will and quite possible rend you in twain with a single thought...now THATS friggin awesome! And don't forget about those adorable nightmarish abombinations twisted into hideous alien forms now! |
| Soul_Drinker09-04-05, 01:31 AM | To be honest, ive gone and blatently ripped off a certian movie thats this certian monkey. YOU KNOW WHO I MEAN. But I didnt like how they really died after awhile, id like to have them alive and then dead, but infected or something. That gives you time to find a cure, or give them the illusion that there IS hope. Right now, Im not so much down with Magic, I played alot of old D&D3E and some Palladium, So Im kinda looking for something a bit more..Cinematcally realistic. Aside from the whole undead thing. dont get me started. Hows this for the discription of the surronding area? Gas station is a Shell station, sittin on the right corner of a T shaped intersection, and on the top of the road, was a Chruch that had a smaller faith, so was only meagerly fenced, looked like the entire building could fit 30 people. across on the left of this intersecion was another church. Only this one was bigger, more steepled. Had a massive parking lot behind it, around 30 cars could fit. This one also has a brick wall topped off with Iron gating spikes. A small bright light can be seen within, as well as a few bodys that didnt quite make it across the wall.. The Gas station sits infron of a car wash, do it yourself, and pretty much just has its back to the wall so it can see both entrances from either side. The womans got herself trapped in the back corner of the car wash, where it meets the wall of the property, Gabe is on the other side of the wash in the public bathroom facing the church with the iron gate. Now that Im thinking about it, I have a evily twisted idea. What if, it isnt really some sort of mutated cancer cell, But some form of alien DNA the government really screwed up with? And they are just covering it up as some form of Medical explanation? Thats why you havent seen the millitary..They have been off doing other things..greater things. SG1 Style things...Ahahahahah! Yeah Ok. you get the idea. Theres so much I can go off on. That would explan how we got psionics. And make for more good story. |

Later My zombies are about the same. Only Ghouls and Vampires keel pver when you blow off their heads, zombies and skeletons just keep on coming, probably relieved that they got a great weight lifted off their shoulders :P We actually have a similar protagonist; in my own little short story, one of my characters is an Awakened Undead Mage who bears an increadibly strong semblence of life (he has to use a special voudoun talisman to generate the illusion of body heat and a pulse). He's partnered with a sweet little overt fox moreau and works for a hyper paranoid german gnome. |
| Illius_the_Warrior_Pope09-04-05, 01:43 AM | Hmmm...I like the setting and the alien idea is definatly a good idea; its a good thing that you're deviating from the standard plague zombie cliche that seems to dominate zombie horror. |
| Fithero09-04-05, 01:45 AM | Oh these many ideas are so awsome, finally its good to meet some zombie folk :P One thing i gotta say though is that i too like a certain amount of realism, apart from the fact that there are zombies. Im of the firm opinion that there would be little to no chance of humanity surviving a zombie outbreak. Thats why my character is going to die at the end, just like everybody else is going to die, its the end of the world. There is no happy ending to this story, he doesnt get to save the girl. Thats what i love about it. Later |
| Illius_the_Warrior_Pope09-04-05, 02:02 AM | Meh...I'm more into accult action thirllers wherein the heros savagle tear that snotty vampire to shreads with a heavily enchanted cahinsaw myself, though I do have a soft spot for zombie horror and the undead bastards in general (Im writing my undead mage off as an Ascended Zombie). |
| Soul_Drinker09-05-05, 12:07 PM | It was a bloody mess. By the time Gabe managed to cripple the few infected who got too close with his golf club, the woman was in serious trouble. Then came a sound that reminded Gabe of watermelon being dropped, but once he figured out what it was really from, his stomach turned over. It was the woman’s baseball bat making contact with infected heads. Interestingly enough, Gabe didn’t notice the nail through it last time. No wonder she seemed more gory then usual. Gabe was a blur as he ran towards the woman, golf club held firmly in both hands, taking a swipe as he neared. Metal connected with soft flesh, then with hard bone and made a sickining crunching noise as one of the infecteds leg gave way to the crushing blow, its head exploding under the impact as the woman made sure it never got up again. Once the carnage was complete, and after wiping the gore from her bat on the clothes of one of the bodys, the woman defiantly looked towards Gabe. Staring him straight in the eyes she boldly states, “If your gonna try and kill me, NOW would be a VERY good idea. You’ll only get one chance.” Looking her over Gabe was impressed. She stood roughly 5’8, brown hair, blue eyes, and the build of a amature athlete. Best to leave this one alone. “No Ma’am. Not looking for any trouble. In fact, you’re the first one Ive seen in weeks. Just happy to see a face that isn’t all ready in the process of decay is all.” Myrriah blushed a bright crimson red at the strangers words. She had been a little rude after all. “Yeah well…please forgive my lack of manners. Everyone Ive met hasn’t been the most hospitable.” Adjusting her stance so that if the stranger made any sudden moves, she would be ready, Myrriah spoke to the grizzled looking man. Little did either of them know, they were being watched from the Church across the street. Earlyer that month, a band of extremest Christians, had taken the church, and deemed it ‘Holy’ ground killing anything they didn’t deem as ‘Holy’ that tried to cross the gate. Remains of those who were unsucessfull in gaining entry still littered the grounds surrounding the front door. Father Pandosy looked at the remaining survivors in his Church, and vowed that until there was no longer any breath in his body, no raider shall come NEAR his precious sanctuary or touch his flock of faithfull. “You there, acolyte. Fetch me the pacifier.” A boy of no more then 12 scrambled to obey the Father, disappearing down some stairs. The father looked out the window at the two raiders who were eyeing up his sanctuary. “Come on you basterds, Im waiting for you.” To be Cont. |
| bobothehobo809-05-05, 06:06 PM | Very awesome story and setting. At first I deemed it another Res Evil knockoff but I have since changed my mind. I think the Psionic idea is great, as well as the supposed government conspiracy. I also like the human vs human conflict. It adds a much needed twist from the traditional Zombie vs Human scenario. My Setting idea: <<<Beforehand>>> A vast empire ruled the continent, the lone superpower in the known world. Ruled superficially by a Commander-in-Chief, it is truly under the dominion of a council of secretive madmen whom have little regard for humanity. Individual thought is stifled, individualism quickly quelled. The government has total, unregulated control over the rights and lives of it's citizens. The members of the council sponsored and funded dark and unholy projects. One such, the so-called "Renaissance" project, was among these. Its purpose? increasing the lifespan of individuals by staving off death completely. The initial results looked promising- they even discovered a way to temporarily ressurect lab animals. Using a chemical compound, harvested from a long-extinct species of bird, they were able to temporarily revigorate varying species of animals. They dismissed the 10% failure rate, in which the animal revived displayed oddly aggresive behavior, as an occasional genetic disorder. Research was quickly accelerated when the initial results were brought before the Dark Council. The first human trial was to be attempted in a small, relatively isolated city called Solace. Unbeknownst to the current residents, several hundred corpses were reborn under the supervision of a team of skilled scientists. The scientists on location lost all contact with the outside world, without even a distress cry, minutes after the human trial began. Reports from Solace were grim. Apparently, the trial failed. Like a disease, the living undead swept across the land. The undead were all similar in mindset to the Animals with the "Genetic defect" from the initial tests. Exasperating this already horrible fact, somehow, someway, they could "infect" those who they killed, who were reborn moments after their death. Not as themselves, but definately not mindless... The government did nothing to save its people. Rather than deploy the military, it actually fell back to secluded fortresses, apparently letting the zombies run their course. Most of the people who haven't been infected have since formed their own secluded conclaves, not unlike those controlled by the military. Those who have done neither are living amidst the anarchy, fighting tooth and nail for their very lives. Let it begin. |
| Soul_Drinker09-07-05, 03:33 PM | Now, Paster Pandosy wasn’t really a Preist. Oh no. Paster Pandosy was really an ex-officer of her Royal Majesty, who was had the pleasure of being called ‘Preist’. It was for the mutterd prayer of forgiveness he said, right before he plugged his target right behind the eye with a 7.62 round from his PSG1 Rifle. Today was no different. As soon as the boy returned with his weapon of mercy, he would show these insurgants to mess with HIS chapter. After the horror, certain militaristic cells seized whatever little power they could gian, what with their weapons and all ready formed organizations. Some of them were groups formed by broken Army factions, who started ‘Holy wars’ agianst the ‘Dammned Infected’. These such elitist cells called themselves Chapters, in honor of and in respect to survival manuals and litiature they came to see as instraments of mans salvation from the Damned. Paster Pandosy was the Chaplin, head ranking Preist of Chapter: Grey Grizzlies. They became known as the greys. Its been well known that the surronding area of the gated church was grey area. Gabe and Myrriah were standing right across the street from head quarters and didn’t even know about it. Luckyily for them, both car loads had gone out for a quick emrgency supply run for whatever they could find, and hadnt returned yet. What they didn’t know, was as they stood there arguing amongst themselfs Pandosy had a clear bead on both of them….if only he had his weapon! BLAST IT! Where WAS that boy? Myrriah stood there, hands at the ready, eyeing up this newcommer. I am surprised to see someone that’s not been infected! Oh thank god theres still hope of survival! But what does he want? I hate this part of meeting new people, they either want to see who you are maybe say hello, or do you say **** you! and smash their head into a pulp before they can kill you? “Thanks for all your….help." Myrriah said a little snidely, afterall, what did this guy really do but trip up a few of the pieces of **** that had destroyed her world? She made the kills in the end, and made a nice little mess in the process. Yes, that felt good giving those basterd what they deserved. “Oh…is that what you call it? Sure lady. No problem. Maybe next time you cry wolf, there will be one eh?” Gabe didn’t have time for this kinda ********. The woman clearly asked for help, and now shes trying to act as though HE had been a hinderance? **** that. Best to place this ***** in her place asap. “Anyways. My names Gabe. Just….Gabe.” Gaberial felt no need to give his full name. Besideds, anyone with half a brain would get it anyways. “Some nice welcome you prick for someone who hasn’t seen a living person in weeks. What are you trying to say? Don’t presume to know me you ignorent basterd.” Myrriah couldent belive his insolence! He better start showing some respect, or she just might have to give him a tour of the Duke…but wait…whats that shining light over by the church? “What the **** are you looking at?” After following her gaze, Gabe stood gawking in the direction of the church to see what this unknown woman was looking at. “And whats you name, I didn’t catch it?” “That’s because I never gave it to you yet. Call me Murr. Its good enough. What do you think that is over there?” “Kinda reminds me of when my binoculars reflect…….oh ****….we might wana hide, I think someones watching us!” |
