Should I include this or not? [Archive] - Wizards Community

Greetings, I know this forum is predominantly D&D backgrounds, but I thought that this would be the right place for this.

I will running a character in an upcoming pbp(play by post) d20 Modern game and was looking for a little advice on my background.

The character is a 28 year old career student who is recently become a field scientist. His motivation for leaving school is that it is what his long-time girl friend wanted for him.

Now the dicey part. I know his girlfriend was tragically killed, but I'm giving serious thought to having her be a victim of the 9/11 tragedy.

I'd like to have the events of that day play a major impact in my character's outlook and personality.

I was not directly affected by the events of 9/11 and I'm hesitant to include it in my background for fear that it might be offensive to someone who was affected by this tragedy.

I'm 28 years old and consider myself a mature person, but with it being PbP the ages and maturity level of the other players is often hard to tell.

Any advise you folks could give me would be helpful. Thanks.

i think this is a great idea. any time you can apply real events into your modern characters history it makes them seem more real. plus it is not like you are making light of what happened, if anything you would maybe be showing its effects. cool idea for a character.
