So basically, i've created an idea of an earth spell based Shugenja (Base class from Complete Divine) named Ossis Strages. Character concept is to go from level 1 shegunja then Fighter for 4 levels, then 10 levels of Osteomancer (Dragon Compendium) then 5 into Blood Magus (Complete Arcane) if requirements are met by then (which they should be). Stats are 15,16,15,14,12,18 (by rolling 4d6 and dropping lowest). So far, Ossis has a background of being raised in the Order of the Impenetrable Crucible (LE alignment sect of order). He began training at age 10 and was fairly decent by age 20 when his practical and comprehensive exams were to be taken. During the practical he kneeled to his teacher and proclaimed he would not fight saying that he had learnt he could do more through words of inspiration than through the brute force in which he had been taught. At this, his teacher cast Imprisonment upon him. Luckily for Ossis, his mother was a high ranked Priestess within the Order and released him, while also alerting the others on the grounds. They were about to make it away on horseback when Ossis's teacher cast Earthquake and spooked the horses into bucking them off. The teacher then proceeded to fight with Ossis's mother and eventually killed her by a unique technique of creating a rift and having her fall through it, trapped in a stone block. Thats what I have so far though in far greater detail (2 pages worth in MS word). Unfortunately this stops him at age 20 and Ossis is starting at age 28. I am trying to find a way in which he could be put into a situation where learning fighter techniques and eventually Osteomancer techniques would apply. At the moment I'm thinking several years of torture, within the Order's walls, but i also want him sent far away from the Order so eventually he may one day return for the obvious final fight to set his mind free from the past (His mother died in front of him! Obviously he would want revenge). This leads to the 2nd problem. I would really like him to be somewhere Neutral. I'm pretty sure a character with a revenge lust is incapable of True Neutrality, but I would like to keep his demeanor towards common folk and strangers to stay away from evil. He was brought up in a Lawful environment but he knows that he'll have to bend rules in order to get what he needs, so chaotic is a little too far because he doesn't think that rules and regulations are bad things. So these are the two basic problems: 1) Something that his Order sentenced him to from anywhere of 5-8 years with an ending allowing cause for Fighter/Osteomancer techniques to be learnt. 2) An alignment which would fit along with the problem above all-the-while sticking to his ethics.
