| The One and Only...09-21-03, 11:21 AM | When I see people play PsyWars, I generally see two distinct types: ones played like a (oriental) monk, and ones played like big dumb fighters, only with a few mental techniques. The ones that are played like monks are disciplined and overuse the meditation aspect that is needed for PsyWars to get their PPs back. They offer philosophical insights, some of which can be quite annoying. They do not necessarily fight unarmed, but many do, using the various Claws of... powers to their advantage and Inertial Armor. The big dumb fighter is... well... the big dumb fighter. He breaks down doors and smashes things. He rarely asks questions or offers advice; he just does what he's told. Now, don't get me wrong; I love both of these characters. Sometimes I just want something a little different. Here's some types I've thought about playing: The Battlefield Assassin - In times of war, no one else compares. Using such powers as Polymorph Self to sneak in enemy ranks and approach targets, he leaps at the enemy commanders, slaying them brutally. As if that wasn't enough, his battle prowess means that he can kill swathes of enemies at a time. To top it all off, the PsyWar can stun small units with Mind Blast, giving his allies time to crush them. The Revolutionary - The PsyWar lives in a dark, despotic world riddled with oppression and incredibly high tax rates. This could spur on something that somewhat mimics the American Revolution; the people want freedom and a free market economy. The PsyWar is just the man to help out, as he could serve in many roles due to his flexibilty. The Power-hungry - Where the monkish PsyWar might seek to master his natural abilities, this PsyWar merely want to improve himself by whatever means possible. He might quest for an ancient and powerful artifact, or perhaps try to gather followers and take over nations. In any case, he slaughters whoever gets in his way. There are also the other, more fighting-style oriented PsyWar types that could be played out - such as the duelist. I'm thinking a fun character might be revolutionary that has some of the traits of monks as well, such as discipline and inner focus. |

The combination of barbaric rage at times and focused mental practice at others was an interesting internal struggle. Knowing when to flip out was difficult, because then there's no going back to using your mental powers. Its' basically the opposite of the monk/psywar, abilities that contradict each other at times rather than complimenting. |
