Alright, so, the Eberrron campaign I'm in is starting soon. I've been given the rare opportunity of playing a Silver Dragon. Now, I'm using the Silver Dragon level progression from the Dragon mag. I'll be at level 2 to start. I know my character, though a hatchling, will be travelling in the form of an elf and posing as a fighter or some other such class. I plan to keep this quiet from the other PCs for as long as I can.

The DM wants a background. Now, a hatchling of probably only a year old or so does not have a hugely extensive background. As this is in the Eberron campaign, I've been told that it's strange to have a dragon hatchling on its own in humanoid form.

So, thusly I need a really plausible background reason for this to occur. I've already decided that my dragon's egg was given to a non-dragon to take care of and rear. It's rather cliche to say that the caretaker was killed for some strange reason. I'm having trouble thinking of something that makes sense. Any ideas?

Sorry, I can't imagine a good story for you rdragon.

In Eberron merly seeing a dragon is rare as dragons have a society of their own and their own lands.

They sit on their island (or rather continent) and are only intersted in the prophecy and don't want to have anything to do with humans. I don't know why a wyrmling dragon would be out of their lands among the lesser races let alone why a dragon would give an egg to a non dragon.
And I really don't know why a dragon would pose as an elf as this two races are at war (A really slow paced war).

Make your dargon be an outcast, and you came to the mainland to start over, and you were exiled. Your caretaker was rooted out and killed for helping you.

Or have your dragon "not sopposed to exist" as in s/he is a bastard child. Your caretaker took you to the mainland to hide you. But, s/he was found out and killed to hide the secret. That would also explain why you didn't want your party to know that you are a silver dragon...

That's the best I can think of, I hope it helps.

That would make the life very dangerous (and probably very short) for your character.

Dragons don't take kindly to outcasts or dragons who go against the society. The Vol incident, while rather a more extreme circumstance, shows what dragons do to those.

Exactly why she is hiding and why her caretaker was killed...

Remember, there is the Chamber as well, the dragons who take a more active role in the world, traveling the world covertly and exploring the prophecy's development more closely.

But why would a wyrmling be member of the Chamber?

What if the wyrmling had a parent or some other like figure that was part of the Chamber? Would that be plausible?
