| Asuryan08-05-03, 09:43 PM | Hello, Am sort of new here but I do need some help. Our DM wants to run a 3E campaign in the Silver Marches. Unfortunately I do not have any information about the region. I would appreciate your assistance in the matter. Thanks |

| Domni Dalrose08-06-03, 12:00 PM | 2 links with various other links that involve the realms. Hopefully some will have info about Silver Marches FR Library (http://www.o-love.net/realms/index.html) big FR link page (http://www.daggerford.com/directory/XcDirViewInCat.asp?ID=1) Silver Marches web enhancement. Free download :) Silver Marchs web enhancement (http://www.wizards.com/dnd/article.asp?x=dnd/we/we20020719a) I'd reccomend Volo's guide to the North. free downloads from WoTC (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/downloads) I'll keep an eye out for any other links that may have info on Silver Marches. A great resource would be to goto a local book store and take a few minutes to read the book Silver Marches. Gotta love Books-A-Million for great coffee and comfy chairs. :) |
| Barrid08-07-03, 02:40 AM | Beware Drizzt and/or his clones. |
| Asuryan08-07-03, 03:31 AM | You got that right. Our DM threatened extreme physical injury to the first person to submit a Drow character in this campaign. I'm planning to be a Human fighter and may be switch class at higher levels (as a Cleric or Sorcerer). |
| Barrid08-07-03, 03:47 AM | I'm currently playing a Gold Elf Necromancer "exiled" from Silverymoon. Drow are ok, as long as you are evil. We're required to play several evil Drow before we're allowed to even think of a good Drow...even then, we're encouraged to go neutral instead. Have you decided on a city of origin yet? Cleric of whom? My Necro still occasionally says prayers to Selune and still considers her his Goddess. He is interested in Velsharoon, but only because he was once a mortal Necromancer. My character is taking a similar career path. |
| Asuryan08-08-03, 08:22 PM | Thanks Barrid Can you suggest a good city of origin? |
| Barrid08-08-03, 10:27 PM | Well....a good cosmopolitan city is easy to say you come from, no matter what race you are. You're a human...if you want to be from areas near the region, I'd pick Baldur's Gate or Waterdeep. close to the region, Luskan and Neverwinter are good choices and are a lot closer, though neither are as large. Luskan being run by pirates...if you played NWN you know some of the story. Silverymoon is the capital and is almost totally populated by Humans Half-Elves and Elves...the other races mke up smaller portions of the populace but every good aligned major race is represented. Helm or Lathander have a good following and a fighter/cleric would be a good follower as well. Selune, Tymora and Mielikki are also pretty large there. The Knights in Silver is the major military orginization. You could be a Man-at-arms or a Knight in training. Everlund is a small town South of Silverymoon. Tymora, Waukeen and Selune are prominent there. |

| Barrid08-09-03, 03:10 AM | No problem, tell us what you end up with. |
| Belzebub08-10-03, 02:52 PM | Hi Asuryan. I DM for my group of 5 12th level players in the Silver Marches. Although by no means necessary, I highly recommend the FR accessory called The Silver Marches. It breaks the Silver Marches down into such detail, you can even tell your players what the weather is like at at that instant by going through tables depending on what time of year and in what area you are. Detailed! The most noteworthy city in the Silver Marches is Silverymoon. Think of it as the Myth Drannor of the North (except its still standing :) ) All of the player races (humans, elves, dwarves, gnomes, halflings) live here in harmony. For example, elves will live in a massive tree and a family of dwarves would have a dwelling in the roots of that same tree, with a little house for a human family right across it. I base our games there and I'd recommend you do the same, seeing that PCs will have lots of access to magic and equipment, and lots of races and people with all backgrounds mingle there. If its in the North, Silverymoon will have it. Main issues in the Silver Marches? In the mountains to the North, huge hordes of orcs live and breed and every few years the horde will pour down into the silver marches to try and conquer the Allied cities. Trolls and giants abound too, and the nearby Hellgate Keep is overrun by fey'ri and other demonic nasties if memory serves me right. Some major drow cities are also in the Silver Marches area (below the surface of course) and plenty of exits to the surface and trouble with the drow exist. Many tribes of Uthgard barbarians are here as well, with lots of tension between various tribes and between civilised members of the marches and the barbarians. If your party prefers roleplaying to hack and slash, there is lots of political tension in the Silver Marches between Allied cities (The Silver Marches is not only the geographical region, but a collection of allied towns and cities in the area too) so cloak and dagger games can thrive in this area. As could be expected the area has a very frontier-ish feel too it and is extremely rich and colourful. You can find sweeping valleys, high mountains with dragons' nests, reclusive demons plotting the downfall of the marches, large monster filled forests, and severe snow and storms at certain times of the year. Lovely, me and my group love it :) Hope that helps a bit. |
| Asuryan08-10-03, 09:22 PM | Thanks for the wonderful insights on the Silver Marches. As the campaign will not start (our DM is still in Japan) for the next 4-6 weeks. this will give ample time to flesh out my character. I plan to make him a fighter who yearns to be a Paladin. I'll need more work on the backstory. |
