The suspicion towards Simon and his mother grew as he was born, for his irises were jet black. The adults whispered in the corners, but the other kids liked him, and he was the focus of attention whenever the kids played. Especially one child was among Simon’s best friends. Her name was Rachel and she was the daughter of the local minor noble, the retired paladin Sir Federico the Brave. He was not happy about his daughter playing with one who was suspected to be the child of a fiend, but he let his daughter have her way for he had a hard time saying no to her. As time passed and Simon grew he began to manifest eldritch powers, and the whispers of fiendish blood started spinning again. Simon himself though, did his best to put his powers to use both for himself and the community. Again Federico let his daughter have her way and spend time with Simon despite the whispers. Now it showed that what was between Simon and Rachel would develop into more than friendship. The first one to act upon the mutual love that had sprung between Simon and Rachel was neither of them though, for it was Federico. When he saw the signs of what was coming, he decided that enough was enough and forbid Rachel to be with Simon when not observed. It soon came to pass during one of their now few meetings that Simon asked Rachel to marry him. As Rachel knew of Simon’s fierce temper, she was afraid what he might do if he knew that her father would not permit the marriage, and that that was the reason she did not accept the marriage. To prevent such a thing she simply said that she did not love him. In his despair and fury of being turned down he said that he did not want to see her ever again. Then he left their estate. Rachel was torn by sorrow and shortly thereafter she left the estate. One hour later Simon returned. He had cooled off and now he regret what he had said. He returned to Rachel’s home, but she was not there. So Simon went to a place in the woods where Rachel often went when she wanted to be alone. There he found her, but not the way he had expected. She had killed herself out of despair. This wrecked Simon’s mind, and no one knows for how long he sat, crying over her dead body. Finally he got up and took her with him to get her buried. Then he noticed that she was holding a letter. It explained that she loved Simon and that she had said otherwise because of her father. At that point he made a choice, a choice to do something about her death. The first step was to secure a part of her body, and thus he plucked a few straws of her hair from her head. Then he set out to learn the forbidden arts of necromancy in order to restore his love to unlife. He delved many a dungeon and many a tomb of necromancers of old, and he learned a lot from the tomes and notes he recovered. At a point he became aware that his quest could take longer time than his life, so he decided to channel negative energy into himself, hoping to become an undead creature himself. He did this many times, but it stopped effecting him before the objective had been reached. He had not been without change though, as his energy balance had turned upside down and his body had gained a little of the durability of the dead. Simon works as a renegade necromancer, pillaging and stealing what knowledge he needs for his quest, and as such he has become a bitter enemy of the clergy of Velsharoon. His latest deed was to steal a large tome of necromancy from said clergy, and left the area for a time to study it. It was only barely that Simon escaped the theft of the tome alive, as the high priest began summoning powerful outsiders and undead creatures to hunt him, but he barely escaped by disguising as a commoner and flee into the local temple of Lathander. Now having unlocked a few of its secrets, he believes that it is time for some practice, and as such he has joined the Heroes for Hire. |

As to the matter of turning to necromancy; Unless you have a low magic world, he would have heard about resurrection and the possibility is greater that he would have turned toward faith, and become and eldritch disciple. |
| munchlord10-12-07, 02:11 AM | well good point... How to fix this... It isn't a low magic world... Now I know, seeing as he is suspected to be of fiendish heritage the local clerics haven't been too nice to him, ranging from "he's a fiend, purge the world of the wicked" to "he's weird, better ignore him" so he doesn't trust men of faith. |

If you take her to be resurected you will certainly be seperated forever. Perhaps it is a simple as believing that you will never be able to ressurect her yourself that keeps you from trying that route. After all you know the rumors and probably have come to suspect their truth. What if no god will grant you such power? |

Her father doing what he did kinda broke the last chance that he'd ever turn no the cleric way |
