| PowerPlay08-27-06, 11:20 PM | Readers, After a recent tryst with not-so-fun CharOping, I've decided to make a guy who actually looks for stories (literally). The character is a truth-seeker type who works as a freelance journalist based in Sharn. A couple of questions... Has anyone ever run a type of game where you primarily try to avoid combat? How does that work? Are there any Eberron substitutions for a camera? Anyone have any ideas how rules for taking someone's picture would work? Does anyone have any ideas for a background for this character? I'm imagining some kind of rebellious aristrocratic artsy youth guy who's trying to make a name for himself and has an honest desire to uncover the secrets of the world he lives in. And has cat ears. HA... jk about the cat ears. Or am I? -PowerPlay |

After all, the same skills that make a good detective make a great investigative journalist. As for the camera, worst comes to worst you could always put ranks into Craft (sketch artist). Then again, considering the technological level of Eberron, you could possibly ask the DM for a prototype camera obscura some gnome just cooked up and get away with it. If you just want to make a record of incriminating evidence in the field, your best bet is probably a warforged ally with a few final messengers. Oh, and cat ears can certainly be cute. Perhaps you could get a hat with fake ones sewn on as an avant garde fashion statement. Or real ones, along with the Alertness feat, if you know a mildly insane wizard. |

I'd probably base it on Magic Mouth--except instead of recording a set message to be relayed, it records a single image to be relayed. You then make a magic item that basically casts Magic Mouth repeatedly, so that it repeatedly take pictures and fetch them. You could then "develop" your pictures using a spell that simply writes/draws for you really fast--sounds like a first, maybe second level spell (depending on whether you want color or what). I'd talk with your DM about it--I'm sure something could be arranged. A bard could probably work well for that, and have him use these spells all the time. Or maybe an Artificer (for making your magical picture-boxes). Or both! And the character concept sounds awesome, especially for an Eberron game. |

I do think it's funny though, that perhaps furries will get rights like human beings, and the Furry Civil Rights Movement will be learned about in school, and people like me will be remembered like the bigots of the Civil Rights Movement. Just kidding, dress up like a skunk and get freaky, but it's damn silly if you ask me. |
