I just started anew campagin and decided to roll up a cleric, seeing as how i've never played one before, and the group didn't have one. I am wondering what kind of backstory is good for a character of a "range roverr" type dietiy. I've only had one session with the dm, but he seemed to encourage role-playing,. si i want to come up with something good. The idea i came up with was something like he decided to see the world, and was chossen by the god. I also like the idea of him having a favortie enemy, bot in the 'Favored Enemy" like a ranger, but simply a foe he despises. I choose Orcs, since it was the first monster we encountered, and thought perhaps that when hye was in training, the town he was in was sieged by orcs, and it wasn't the lack of food or the fighting that angered himn, it was the lack of being abhle to leave. Anyway, i better leave it there since i'm getting tired and rambaling. If anyone has any ideas for a stroy for this guy, i would love them since i'm drawing a blank right now. Thanks

Your parents were killed early in life. You drifted between families, but you felt like a burden and eventually left to find your place in the world. You soon ran out of food and were near to death when a travelling man took pity on you. He was a cleric and he offered to travel with you if you would listen to his stories of his diety.

He was on a quest to try and bring law to the orc tribes and you became his student. You learned everything from him. He tried to teach the orc tribes about working together and not just might makes right. You and your teacher came across a bloody field where a great battle took place. Your teacher went and began healing those that he could. You helped as much as possible, but did not know as much. As you were trying to heal an orc you saw as one of them that your teacher had healed raised up and slew your master from behind as he tried to heal another fallen orc.

Others that you had both helped rose up and continued their bloody battle until they were all dead or dying. On that day you buried your teacher and vowed to see the end of the orc race.

(On a roleplaying note, you probably hate all orcs and half-orcs and believe them to be idiots completely void of rational thought. They are useless animals that need to be slaughtered. Of course you will also probably start sliding toward evil if you follow through, but if there is a half-orc in the party it makes for an interesting role-playing dynamic.)

Perhaps when you were young, your town was attacked by orcs, and you were forced to flee. You walked for weeks through the plain, unsure if the orcs weren't after you, and carrying your little sister on your back. Every night, you prayed Fharlaghn to find a quick and sure road. When you finally reached the nearest city, you swore three things: to avenge your town from the orcs, to serve Fharlaghn, and to never carry your little sister on your back again.
