| tombowings06-20-07, 06:15 PM | I am having problems going from the story to the mechanics. I'm not worried about optimization and we are starting at 1st level. I just would like a few idea of how to do Sayyid justice. Well, here is my backstory. I know it isn't written very well, but it was originally just going to be for myself. Sayyid Mahan The Beginning Sayyid Mahan was born and raised in a harsh desert on an island far to the west. He had always been on the poorer side, but enjoyed the comforts of a good family and caring friends. Wesley, Sayyid’s father, had been a cobbler. Ever since he was twelve, his father had been showing a thing or two about the family business. Just after his 16th birthday, his mother, Sierra, killed in a terrorist attack on the way to the village well. Sayyid was left alone with his father. Over many long nights spent awake weeping over the death of his dearly departed wife, Wesley Mahan, engaged in many activities he would not have done otherwise. About a week later, we was cause raping a sleeping woman and was put behind bars; scheduled for execution. The last time Sayyid saw his father was just before the hanging, which he was forbidden to watch. He no longer had anywhere to go, so he moved out onto the street. He was forced to steal food and other necessities to survive. It did not take him long to figure that this was not what he wanted to do in life – he could amount to more than a common, homeless thief. Sayyid soon found out it was not so easy to switch his way of life. There was just no where to begin. No one would think the orphaned son of a cobbler could amount to much of anything. At the age of 17, young men were forced to serve in the imperial army for two year. With reluctance, Sayyid, agreed to serve after begin caught during a burglary. He spent three months training as a soldier. Sayyid fought against the rebels nearly a year in a half before he felt remorse set in. Love in War Fourteen months after he joined the service, Sayyid was stationed at a prison as a guard. He was to keep the prisoners in line during the night hours. There was one prisoner in his wing that really showed spirit. She, like many others, had been a rebel, fighting against the republic. For many nights they watched each other, cautious about what the other might do. However, on night, she said, “Do you know what you doing, who you are defending when you do this?” Sayyid said nothing. Finally Sayyid told her why he was here; because he had no where else to go. Even after many hours of conversation she would not tell him her name. Every night, they would stay up late and tell each other stories about their pasts. This was the happiest time of Sayyid‘s and over time he began to love her. Unlike Sayyid, she truly believed in what she stood over. An even though she had killed many men, her heart was still pure. She was a woman with soul. Three months after they had met, a fellow guard came up to him and told him that the woman he talk to at night was to be executed the following morning. Sayyid could not believe what he was hearing. He went back down to her straight at once and told her of the news he had just heard. She confessed that new and that had not wanted to tell him; not put any more hurt into his life. Sayyid told her he was going to save her. And save her he did. He took the key off of one of his guard buddies and the miraculously got outside without being seen. The woman led Sayyid through the desert for day. Sayyid thought she felt she owed him for saving her from execution. She showed him how to survive off of the land, a necessary skill when considered am outlaw to most of the public. During their travels, the trust between them grew, finally she gave in to letting him her name was Miriam and that she was taking him back to the village where she grew up. The two of them spent many months there together. Until one day Miriam told Sayyid she was going be to join the rebellion. It was a tough week before Miriam let, many tears were shed. It was hard for them to split apart, hard enough in fact that Sayyid joined the rebellion as well. From One Side to the Other Well, they joined the rebellion. It was difficult for Sayyid to earn their trust, being a former member of the imperial army. It took Miriam to convince them of his sincerity. Sayyid easily adjusted from the army to the rebellion, it really wasn’t much different, except for one major difference. The people of the rebellion all shared determination and love for their cause. Sayyid never shared their enthusiasm, as truth be told, he was there for one reason: Miriam. Sayyid had not told her of his feelings, but he could tell she shared them as well. It soon became difficult for them to spend much time together, as the rebellion was very demanding. The young man spent his days training in mounted combat and scouting out resources the rebellion could use. However, his nights were spent with Miriam. Every day the bond between them strengthened. And finally they confessed their feelings for one another. That night they kissed each other all over, everywhere but their lips. Because if they kissed there, it would mean that they were a couple. After only a few hours, the temptation became to strong, and they gave in. That was a night both Sayyid and Miriam would never forget. Neither Sayyid nor Miriam saw much action, not until the raid. During the night, there was a raid on the rebel camp. The rebels were caught of guard and fell hard. Sayyid and Miriam managed to escape along with a few others. They traveled north by night, but were spotted by a search party rounding up survivors. Sometime during the battle, they took Miriam, Sayyid was not sure when. It took the news of Miriam’s death two months to reach Sayyid, who had been searching for her ever sense. He was torn over what to do. There was no way he would be able to assault the imperial army all by himself, but he couldn’t sit around and let them get away with what they had done. Finally, he decided to leave the island and gather an army of his own to avenge her and bring her from the dead back if at all possible. *Done* |

Would do anything to help the people he knows or likes, even risk his life. In the future he'll probably become more confident and will fight for what he believes is right, rather than do what seems easiest at the time like now [like stealing when he had nothing else to do] |
| BroadStreetBully06-21-07, 01:19 AM | yeah, you could also justify pretty much any rogue or fighter type with that background. it's also fairly well-written, you should give yourself more credit. |
