| fullmetal8011009-02-06, 01:32 AM | I thought of something really cool for a character, a kobold who thinks he is the son of Bahamut. I play on taking a PrC later that is actually for a decendant of a diety, so at first he is the only one who believes it, than everyone else follows. How can I get a really cool story to back this one up? I keep drawing blanks when I try. Thx- |
| Fithero09-02-06, 01:52 AM | Maybe his mother lied to him when he was young... and being stupid with illusions of grandure (two things most kobolds are) he actually believed it. Thats if your looking for a humble beginnings sort of story, if your looking for a more grand and great beginning, perhaps he helped a follower of bahamut (a paladin or something) and he said off hand that kobolds are rumoured to be the sons of bahamut (he said "kobolds", not him in paticular) and that they had mistakenly been led astray. Either or works, hope this helps some. Peace |
| fullmetal8011009-02-06, 02:03 AM | He is actually going to be the decendant of Bahamut, I found a PrC that is called a bloodchild. Bahamuts blood is in my veins etc. |
| Sikyanakotik09-02-06, 04:05 PM | Remember, kobolds tend not to keep track of little things like who begat who. Perhaps you were concieved immaculately in a temple of Bahamut, then one of his priests snuck your egg into the clutch of a nearby kobold tribe so you could grow up knowing humility. |
| Tramp4life09-02-06, 04:30 PM | Go the Godly route! You were raised in the Church to believe you were the son of Bahamut. They raised you from a Hatchling. You have platinum scales and stats that would make normal kobolds look pitiful (1/2 dragon maybe?)...then, take a bunch of the draconic sorceror feats (gives you a NICE breath weapon) and load up on sorcerous spells that are useful... Get yourself some wings 1st available and ALWAYS talk about you are a God... Oh, and very important...don't die! |
| Optimator09-02-06, 11:53 PM | Heheh, a LG kobold would be awsome. Maybe be a vassal of B or a cleric even. I dig it. |
| Devlonir09-03-06, 03:44 PM | I like the idea of the egg snuck away! Especially when you combine it with the fact that he doesn't know this fact himself and also combined with the odd reason why he believes he is the son of Bahamut. Nobody will take him seriously untill they actually find out he actually is what he claims he is (and he will probably also be as surprised himself as well) |
| TheAnthroDM09-03-06, 04:40 PM | If you take any levels in sorcerer, take the draconic heritage feat, and choose platnium. If you DM allows it. Another thing is to become a dragonwrought Kobolt, (Platnuim coloration) I think its a really cool idea. I don't suggestion the Half-Dragon Template, If any template "Draconic" |
| fullmetal8011009-03-06, 05:07 PM | Ok this is the story I am thinking of using, sorry for grammer/spelling/typos it is like 2am and I have been thinking/working on the character all night. Urath was born in a small, religious village. But was soon banished from the village for not worshipping the traditional kobold god, he chose to worship Bahamut. He was also very different in appearance; he had golden scales and had a white star with a sort of darkish purple behind it, an exact copy of Bahamut’s holy symbol. He was also starting to grow wings on his back. His parents wanted to banish him from the village, they were ashamed of his religion and color. They sent him into the woods with a few days trail rations and some water. He was lucky and wandered into a cave just outside of the woods. There was an adult gold dragon in the cave that was about to kill him. He had thought that it was just another kobold after his hoard of treasure, but then saw he was gold with the symbol in-between his eyes. He knew who and what Urath was and caught him right as he was running out of the cave. The dragon picking him up and attempted to assure him that he meant no harm. He introduced himself as Bensvelk, Urath knew this meant good in draconic so this calmed his nerves a little but was still uneasy. He had finally calmed down after Bensvelk showed him the gargantuan holy symbol of Bahamut he had against his wall, it must have been over 100ft tall. He started to explain how he was a devout follower of Bahamut and that he knew great things of him. He started to explain that Bahamut had put his essence in Urath before he was born, and that is why he followed him when everyone else around him ridiculed him for it. Bensvelk offered to train Urath in Bahamut’s teachings and philosophies. Urath stayed in the cave for 2 years learning and practicing the religion. He was also taught about all of the different types of dragons and their normal tendencies. He also learned what powers he would have when Bahamut’s essence fully manifests itself, and how to know when and how to use them. When Urath was getting ready to leave the cave Bensvelk handed him some armor, a wand, and other supplies from his hoard of treasure to help him on his journey. Since then he has been traveling around spreading the good word of Bahamut. The PrC I am going into later actually gives me powers from having that essence in my blood. I am currently a cleric and that background part about me leaving with some items wasn't a way for free things, I used starting gold for it but decided to define it in a different way. If you have any ideas on how to make it better please tell me. -Thanks PS: I know it is near impossible, but if there is a close picture to this anywhere please tell me that too, thanks again. |
| Sikyanakotik09-03-06, 10:32 PM | Dude, an obvious blessing from any draconic diety would likely be seen as a great boon in kobold society, no matter who it was from. Unless they were all hardcome Tiamat worshippers, they almost certainly wouldn't cast out a kobold with the mark of Bahamut upon his brow. Heck, even a mark from Garyx would be seen as at least sort of good. In any case, making his blessing so obvious seems just a little cheesy to me. Jesus didn't have a big cross branded into his forehead, after all. Well, it wouldn't have meant anything before his death, but still... |
| fullmetal8011009-03-06, 11:39 PM | Well if jesus was cool he would have had a cross branded into his forhead...... |
| Kearif09-05-06, 03:36 PM | The golden scales idea dosen't really work, TheAnthroDM had it right when he/she/it suggested the Platinum Dragonwrought Kobold. Sikyanakotik has it very wrong about the Kobold's reaction to the mark of Bahamut on the character's forehead. He would have been killed shortly after birth! Also Dragonwrought Kobolds are sometimes born with wings, the Dragonwings feat at third level is ablity to USE those wings. (I not sure if that's what it says in the book but it makes more sense) I am running a Copper Dragonwrought Kobold Scout, maybe you could use some of his story to help yours. His mother was LN and just couldn't stand to see him killed (he was her firstborn) so she painted his copper scales red every morning until he was old enough to leave the mine. he was not born with wings. |
| TheAnthroDM09-05-06, 07:14 PM | You're partially right, Platnuim dragonwought would be awesome, but if you read races of the dragon, you'll find that Kobolds revere all dragons, and that includeds good dragons, you see, Kobolds arn't really that evil, XD save for the fact that they murder Gnomes, but thats justified. Kobolds can also tell what the dragonwrought will be by the spots on its egg, and if they hated metalic dragons(which they don't) then all the eggs would be smashed before birth. Accautly, now that I think about it, Kobolds AREN'T evil. Seriously, read RoTD and give it some thought. |
| Kearif01-26-07, 06:42 PM | Opps! I forgot that Official kobolds worship Kurtulmak. In my game they worship Tiamut. so, yeah, opps! Also, maybe you should read Race of the Dragon. The spots on the egg are NOT defenative proof of the color or metal of the kobold within. In the fic at tyhe beginning of the chapter the female HOPES that the blue spot mean that it is a bluewrought. And Kobold are evil. it says so in the Monster Manual Line 13, column B, page 161. |
