As the title would imply, I'm making a sorcerer. I'm planning on giving this sorcerer Saphire Dragon heritage, and most of his spell revolve around Dragons and Dragon-ness. He'll eventually be taking levels in Dragonheart Mage.

Now, this is all because the character cares so deeply about where his magic comes from (aka Saphire Dragons). The problem being: How did he find out?

I would be grateful for suggestions as to how he found out about his heritage, as well as how I could roleplay the emphasis he places on it. How do you think he should react to other arcane casters, especially other sorcerers (and especially sorcerers who don't care about where they get their magic)?

Thanks.

Honestly it might be better if you don't know your heritage right off the bat. Perhaps your character is plagued with visions that show these majestic sapphire wyrms gliding through the air viewing the earth with scorn. Your character debates theory of spells and magic with a sapphire dragon in his great library. During game play, maybe your DM could integrate a meeting with one the great dragons. Perhaps they look over your family, and take interest in those who show natural magic ability. That’s the way I would play it off, of course if the DM cannot work that into the story, or if you have no desire to role-play the quest of confirmation of your ancestry, here is another alternative.

Your family is a house of great sorcerers. They can trace there family back 8 generations to a sapphire dragon who fell in love with one of the woman of your family. They had offspring, and eventually, the dragon blood grew thin enough not to produce half-breeds any loner. Now the blood of dragon manifests itself through sorcerers. Your family is proud of its heritage, and gladly tell all their children the story of there heritage.

Hope this helps.

I like those ideas. Thanks!
