| 2y1y1z211-02-05, 01:29 PM | Ok. I've had this idea floating around my head for awhile now, I just need help polishing the backstory. I'm going to bounce back and forth between Favored Soul and Sorceress until I meet the prerequisites for the Mystic Theurge prestige class and progress from there. She's specializing in Necromancy. She is Chaotic Neutral Dahlia was young when her parents died. Young enough to not really remember them, but old enough to be completely traumatized by their deaths. She was taken into (insert religious order with an unhealthy fixation on death and undeath) and was brought up by the clerics there. One night, she had a dream in which her god, for which she'd lived her life since her parents died, called to her for help and touched her forehead. When she woke up she was shrouded in an aura of a color commonly associated with her deity. It faded after a few weeks, but her order recognized her as being chosen by their god (Hence the Favored Soul). They began her training even more intensely, so that she would not let her god down. About this time, however, she began manifesting strange arcane powers (Hence the Sorceress) and eventually her order decided that she could learn more and advance her deity's cause more readily away from the temple. They outfitted her in basic gear and sent her on her way. I've already figured out her spell progression and such. I simply need help making her backstory more in depth. |
| Good Agnostic11-02-05, 01:37 PM | What is the campaign setting? |

Is she disdaining one magic (presumeably the arcane) in favor of the other? That could be very interesting. "I'd rather smite you with the power of my god, but I'm going to hit you with my own, lesser, magical fireball, instead." This would come about if she's very faithful, so you could include a lot more story about her order and her place in it. Who knows? She might have ambitions to become the leader of the order, given her Favored Soul status. She could even do so within the order's theology: "Oh, bishop (or whatever title), you know how we were debating yesterday what the afterlife is like and what it's like to be a zombie? I think you should find out." Alternately, she could be a rebel. If she's not taking well to her role in the order, despite all her training, she might be more fond of her sorcerous spells. She's still fond of the undead, and she hates authority, so the combination has her traveling the land, practicing her arcane arts, even as it fits into her diety's schemes for her life, since, y'know, it's a diety, and thus planned all this from the start, hence her Favored Soul progression still goes on. |

She's a little unnerved by the fact that she has the kind of power she does, but also incredibly attracted to the idea of gaining more power. I figure someone within her order was responsible for her parents' deaths, and that could come out if she delves into the order a bit more, but at the level we're playing, she wouldn't have any chance against him/her. She might adventure to gain strength to defeat her parents' murderer, perhaps even fighting the zombified corpses of her parents. (Ooh...good plot device) Does anyone have any suggestion as to which deity would be most appropriate for my purposes? |

Kelemvor is all about honouring the dead, realising that death is a part of life and not to be feared... also he is about beating the crap out of any undead. Jergal is all about death itself, everybody dies at some point at some apointed hour. This guy is very formal and very fatalistic. Both of these gods would be good for a death orientated patron. Hope this helps. Later |
