| tombowings01-08-08, 07:35 PM | I'm looking to play a scholar type character in our upcoming campaign. A scholar of what, you might ask? Well, my friend, that's why I'm here; I'm really not sure what I want to play. I have have a couple ideas, but I'm not sure where to go with them. Wizard: Either a generalist or Diviner. Not sure where to go from there. Cloistered Cleric: Not sure, never played a divine caster before. Archivist: Scholar who was booted from the church because of his crazy ideas that Arcane and Divine magic where really the same thing. He is now adventuring to prove his theory correct. Any other ideas would be greatly apprenticed. |

Soren Stonefell had always been rather dark and individualistic for a priest, always offering his own interpretations to the deific teachings. His unusal outlook caused him to progress surprisingly quickly through the church’s ranks and gain the post of minister with surprising ease. And within a couple of months, Soren was given access to even the most unsanctioned achieves. The text contained some of the most ancient of scripts he had even seen, and took him days to translate the glyphs. In the end, Soren understood while the text was hidden from the public eye, it was all of the instructions on how to manipulate the energies the god had left on the Material Place before their departure to their own realms. It spoke of the creature of the world and how “wizards” had been taking control of divine energies without completely realizing what they were doing. Later that week, Soren approached the High Priest and shared with him his findings. However, the High Priest just stared down at Soren, “I’m sorry it had to come to this, you would have been a great asset to our family here.” With a snap of his hands, a silvery sword appeared in the High Priests grasp. The next this Soren know, was that he was running, running like he had never ran before—away from the High Priest, away from the life he knew. Soren had found out the truth, but he knew not why it was so important to his superior. Whatever the reason, Soren vowed to find out. He left the monastery the following day, never to return. Any feedback on the backstory would be appreciated. Also, I could use some help figuring out Soren's mechanics. |

| Terjon of the Blue Rose01-11-08, 12:34 AM | Not bad. I'd probably remove the dark and individualistic and make it inquisitive and indivualistic, perhaps even say an inquisitive mind who had remained constantly away from the core of the church. Beyond that I'd give him either something to indicate his unaware, naive nature (he doesn't realize that he is seperating himself from the church or that he is delving into forbidden lore) or I'd give him some suspicion about his studies and make that the cause for his going to the high priest. |
