Here is my new PC background. Let me know what you think.

<BEGIN BACKGROUND>
Martek Erk'etamunay was born but twenty cycles ago to members of the ruling caste of the Deep Imaskari, in the only city of that lost and ancient race of powerful wizards-lords. Being a direct descendent of those who had fled the destruction of their great surface empire many thousands of years ago, Martek's parents are Hijo Erk'etamunay and Warmi Erk'etamunay.

Being young for even an Imaskari wizard, he is quite tall, standing just over six and half feet tall. His facial features are delicately chiseled and angular, reminiscent of the elven peoples, though his disturbingly red eyes draw the attention of any onlooker away from his pale white skin. Martek wears predominately dark patterns and dark grays, so as to set off his white pallor. His only shirt is of thick silk, with traces of lace at cuff and collar. Other than his somewhat alien and formal style of dress, Martek wears only limited jewelry and usually only if it has a purpose. In conversation, his common tongue speech is strange and in some cases sounds somewhat backwards, even his elven is heavy with the drow dialect patterns.

Living in the secret city of the Deep Imaskari, Martek 's childhood, like many Imaskari, was filled with wonder and discovery. The City of his people is a precious jewel filled with beauty, peace and great works of the Art, vast magical gardens support crops but no livestock. Thus like all his people, Martek is vegetarian and finds the thought of eating the flesh of a self-aware being, what others refer to as animals, ghastly. He is as likely to address a horse that has carried him with courtesy and gratitude as another might address it's owner.

In part, thanks to the Deep Imaskari's control of dimensional magic's. Martek finds dwellings that are small and confined to be strange and unsettling and has, rarely, suffered from claustrophobia.

While others of his kind explored the caverns beyond the recently created breach in the Great Seal that wards Deep Imaskar, from intrusion or even recall in the memories of others, Martek sought only the study of the magical Arts, seeking to restore the power and glory of Imaskari High Magic. This is perhaps his greatest weakness; some might say so of any wizard, the urge to give oneself solely to the Art, to risk anything to learn more of the High Art. To further his understanding of magic he had taken to the study of the Lady of Mysteries, Mystra Goddess of Magic, in secret as her rites were recorded in the most ancient manuscripts of his people. Though never taking any deity as a patron, he still holds a passing interest in the divine. Long years were spent pouring over forgotten tomes, days flew past in meditation and self improvement as he sought to strengthen his body and mind to the sometimes destructive energies that resulted from controlling the raw magical energies that the wizard shapes into his spells. He gained insight into outer-planar forces and beings and in time his researches lead to the understanding of ancient portals.

It was then that his parents realized the dangerous path he had started in his researches and had the difficult decision to report him to the ruling council. For his reckless curiosity, and miss use of his Art's in risking the secrecy and isolation of Deep Imaskar he was imprisoned beneath the city by his own parents, whom used their sorceress arts to imprison him in a stasis sphere for a long ten cycle period.

Upon his release, feeling bitter and betrayed by his own family he slipped back to the abandoned tower he had first used some ten years ago. Martek entered the dark laboratory, slowly, exultantly, his very being trembling with fear and excitement in equal measure. He had walked in this chamber many times over the years before his imprisonment. Nothing and no one had disturbed the great chamber in ten years. The gray dust lay thick on the floor as smooth and trackless as the new fallen snow he could only imagine from the ancient histories he had read. The size of the chamber was difficult to determine, almost as if some powerful force was straining at it extra-dimensional boundaries. But the longer he stayed the larger it appeared to grow?

Martek eyes went to the spell books lining shelf after shelf along one entire wall of the chamber. His heart beat faster recognizing them from the ancient histories. The ones with the blood red bindings and gold runes were likely to be the books of the great archmagi that overthrew the heir of Ilphemon. A terrible chill flowed to him from the magic's bound in their pages. He dared not touch such fell works least they freeze his skin and burn his mind. Though he turned instead to another row of books these bound in black with silver runes proclaiming them the tomes of Ilpheria, Ilphemon's heir, these he risked casting in to his bag of holding?

Quickly, least his courage fail him, Martek knew the time had come to leave his home and he meant to never return. His vision blurred and tears streamed from his eyes as he took what he could from the families own library and even adding equipment from his father's armory and raced toward the breach in the Great Seal. As the City Guards approached him, raising the alarm as they did, he stepped thru the archway ...

Suddenly he was not in the cavern beyond the city, but some place else entirely. The magic from the Great Seal had done what it was suppose to do, because he had stepped thru the gate with a purpose; escape. Now, in strange surroundings, he realized that the memory of his home was fading; its details and location seem to simply vanish. Not only that but as he skidded to stop and looked over his shoulder toward what should be the angry guards, he was shocked to find that the gate and the guards and everything he knew had vanished as well, leaving a dark, stone wall to stared back at him. Only then, as he turned back towards the way of his escape did he realize that the world and all of its knowledge awaited his discovery.
