The only story I have made her so far, is that she is descended from some weird Moon-aligned race (need help there), and that in order to make her Family being respected again in "Evermeet" is that she has to somehow research on how she can learn moon spells innately and then, and only then ... to create the Moonblade. Her primary goal, is to create the Moonblade... which signifies great royalty and acceptance of her Family in the noble class in Evermeet. But in order to do that, as you guessed, is that she has to find out how to learn (maybe through an experience during an adventure, a powerful emotion ... etc.etc.) the moon spells (which are indeed the Moon spells in Faerun). Any help is greatly appreciated =) |

But she can reclaim the family honor by learning to cast the spells necessary to create a Moonblade, due to her mixed heritage which includes some Moon-influenced race? Well, it's not official FR stuff, but I came up with a home-brewed race called the Vett (pronounced "fett") who are somewhat elf-like beings who worship the moon (Father Moon) as their deity and creator. Equally as ancient in origin as the elves and dwarves, they're often known as Moonchildren. They're rarely seen as they live in small villages high in the mountains and are sometimes mistakenly called "mountain elves" by those who don't know better. They've got long histories with both the elves and dwarves, and have very good relations with the goliaths who live above them on the mountains. About the height and general appearance of half-elves, but slightly more muscular (+2 Dex, +2 Con, -2 Cha) and with more pointed ears, Vett have pale skin and generally either black or dark red hair. Their only non-elflike trait is that they have tails like a cat, which are slightly prehensile. They're agile and tough, wiry but graceful, yet people often find their appearance and culture slightly unsettling. They have lowlight vision which is superior to an elf's, which they consider to be a gift from Father Moon. Their eyes shine like an animal's when the light hits them, but the reflection resembles an image of the full moon. Their strange eyes also allow them to see clearly through Father Moon's other gift to them - they can cause an obscuring mist-type effect a number of times per day. They have a very philosophical culture, and are very observant and aware of the world around them, speaking little as they don't bother to state what they see as obvious, which generally isn't as obvious to anyone who isn't a Vett. They train in the bastard sword as a racial weapon, and their favored class is ranger. The dance-like style of fighting (called the War Dance) they use with their bastard swords would fit in well with what I know of Eilistraee - she's often portrayed as dancing, right? They're seen as being very mysterious and mystical, and sorcerors are fairly common. (The occasional Vett born with white hair is almost invariably a sorceror and considered blessed by Father Moon.) I don't know if they'll help for your backstory, but it seems the flavor might work. Since they're rare enough to be thought mythical by some people yet also have a bone-deep tradition of wanderlust, it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to say that an elf was descended from one of them without ever even having to place them as a race in the campaign world. Since they resemble elves, any physical signs of Vett heritage wouldn't be readily apparent to anyone who wasn't an elf who knew of her mixed race. A half-Vett would have a tail, but if her grand- or great-grand-father was a Vett, she probably wouldn't. Feel free to borrow them if they work for you, or change them if need be... |
