Hi, I'm currently playing a half-elven swashbuckler who seems to have extremely bad luck, this is because of my supernatural ability to drop a d20 that frustratingly frequently comes up on a natural 1. This ability seems to most manifest itself during times of great need, for example: a drow warrior was threatening to slit our captured party member's throat unless we let him go.When rolled my diplomacy check to get him to back down, a 1 came up. This had the in-game effect of practically spitting in the drow's face, we had to spend 36,000 on resurrection fees for a dead adventurer. I roll more 1s on my attack rolls (two weap fighting with 16-20 crit threat rapiers) than anyone else in my party and I pretty much roll at least two or three natural 1s a session.

I decided It would be best to devise an in-game reason for my character's incredible bad luck. Unfortunately this also means that it has to be carefully thought out as (hopefully...really hopefully) my luck could change for the better.
Therefore I'd be happy to hear suggestions from people, especially those who face my same curse.
Some background info:
Comes from Athkatla, family of wizards (even though he's a 2nd level sorceror/4th level fighter/2nd lev swashbuckler and 2nd lev half-elf paragon (see unearthed arcana), and we all know people don't like wizards in Amn. He's had a pretty rough run in life (seduced by a tiefling to do various dirty work in city, the tiefling then left. In recent times one of his best friends killed most of his family (I resurrected them though but it was gruelling work, my character had to carry his mother's head to a temple for true resurrection, I reckon he's fairly traumatized after that). He's also incredibly easy to trick. Most of his family's wealth has been taken also to fund the war effort against the sythsillian army.

Do what I do. Roll the dice in a small cup. Roll the dice vicously. Call it a Schroedinger Cup. Kill cats in game. Or don't kill them. Problem solved.
